“I’ve got the apolitical blues, and that’s the meanest blues of all.”
Originally recorded by Little Feat, but personally, I am partial to the Van Halen cover.
I guess “semi-apolitical” could possibly be an accurate descriptor for me.
Webster’s defines apolitical as:
1 : having no interest or involvement in political affairs
also: having an aversion to politics or political affairs
2 : having no political significance
It’s not as much as I have a total disinterest or aversion to politics as it is that I don’t lean any one particular way, and frankly, I have a hard time trusting most anyone in any office.
To me, politics, much like big business, is driven by agendas that are rarely meant to benefit the majority of people. Then again, one could possibly argue that politics and big business are the same damn thing at the end of the day anyhow.
That said, I do vote, and which way I lean depends on the issues and how I feel about them. In that respect, my political views have not changed much at all, because I’ve never felt the need to be beholden to any particular party or dogmatic view.
I follow my conscience and place trust in my values that I’ve made the best choice possible, which at the end of the day, is a pretty standard life rule to me.
And now it’s time for some Van Halen.
