1,000 Reps Of Doom!

The past couple days of my 30-Day Pushup Challenge were mediocre, to say the least.

I got my reps in, but I was feeling off, and it was honestly, a case of going through the motions just to say I got it done. Which, on one hand, is nice that I pushed through it, which is somewhat the point. On the other hand, half-assed is not the bar I want to set for myself.

It was bugging me quite a bit, so last night I decided it was time to bust down a door and get to it.

I decided to do a 1,000 rep challenge today.

Why? Mostly to prove to myself that I could. I have done them in the past, but not for quite some time. A few years back I even did a 2,021 rep challenge to ring in the New Year.

I know it sounds like a far-fetched claim, but it is totally doable.

I originally was going to do a 1,000 Pushup Challenge, but I knew my shoulders would hate me, so I decided to make it 1,000 total reps instead. Only caveat was at least 200 had to be pushups per my currently running challenge.

I ended up completing 1,079 total reps, 300 of which were pushups.

The remaining exercises were a mix of resistance band exercises, dips, and hammer exercises (more on the hammers at a future date).

I got up earlier than normal today, had a couple coffees, popped some fish oil and creatine, and got down to it.

All said and done, it took me about 4 hours total.

I even managed to work some one-armed pushups into the mix, which was cool because I had not done those in a long, long while.

By about the 500 rep mark, it turned into a grind. I won’t lie and say the reps were flawless by this point. Some were sloppy, some were partials, and some were done as fast as freaking possible.

But, I did it and now I feel like the air of mediocrity that hounded me the last two days is greatly lessened.

I’m pretty tired now, but as the saying goes, it’s a good kind of tired. πŸ˜„

Perhaps I will turn this into a monthly ritual? Might be a good way to remind myself of the need to dig deep once in awhile. πŸ’ͺ

  1. Are you going to share a ‘before’ and ‘after’ moment/picture..? coz doing 1000 push ups is not for the faint-hearted

    1. Hi Sharon, I didn’t take any today. Perhaps I will do another challenge day like this next month and consider posting a couple pics or video clip.
(Note to self: get diet back on point before that lol)

Honestly, today was more just about kicking myself in the tail and proving to me that I still had something in the tank.
The main reason I posted about it was because I was proud of completing it and to show that anything is possible if someone really wants it.
