I mean, as much as I’d love to go outside the box here, I have to go with the very thing that’s allowing me to post this here reply. Yep, gotta say the internet.

We could debate from now until the end of time whether it’s for the better or for the worse, but no denying it’s one of, if not the, most important inventions in semi-recent memory.
While it comes with it’s downsides, like the always-on mentality, information overload, doomscrolling, cyber-bullying, the disappearance of several brick and mortar stores, etc., it also has it’s positives.

There are so many more learning opportunities available now that weren’t even a decade ago. Hell, the internet got a whole year’s worth of kids and adults through school and work in 2020/21.
It also totally redefined the modern working model, with the revelation that many jobs could indeed be done from home.

You can book appointments, shop for the best deals on anything from dog food, transcontinental flights, to ordering a brand new custom car direct from the manufacturer and flying overseas to pick it up. Yeah, I know a guy who did that. π
And while a lot of brick and mortar stores have disappeared, it’s also allowed a lot of folks to turn their passions into a way to make extra money, or even a career for themselves.
Speaking for myself, it’s given me a fair amount of positives. It’s given me ideas for career development, ways to supplement my income, indulge my creative pursuits (and reveal a few to me I didn’t think of before), and a chance to meet and chat with some fantastic folks from all over not only the country, but the world.
Last time I had the chance to meet so many people from other nations, I had to go to war. This is definitely more pleasant.
So, in conclusion, despite the aggravations it can sometimes present, I would have to say the internet is right at the top of the list for most important inventions in my lifetime.
