Which Way To Go?

Do you believe in fate/destiny?

There’s a line in the Sammy Hagar song “Give To Live” that says:

“I believe in fate and destination, but so much of that lies in our own hands.”

Great song, and as an added bonus, the late, great Eddie Van Halen plays bass on this album.

I kind of like that line and I subscribe to that theory. Perhaps the end of the road is predetermined, but perhaps how we get there is up to us? Perhaps the journey there is ours to control. You know, all those little forks in the road we keep running into.

Is the whole thing already planned out, and we’re just playing our roles according to the script?

Are we in the Matrix and just need to figure out how to hack it?

Has all this happened before, and will happen again?

Is all the pain just an illusion?

Is it live or is it Memorex?

Do you have anymore of a clue than I do? I’d wager not.

All we have is what we choose to believe. Or what we are “choosing” to believe according to the unseen script we are running.

What I choose to believe is that I am trying to live my best life possible and deserve a good and happy life.

Or am I just telling you that because I’m supposed to? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Either way, I’m gonna go listen to Sammy and EVH right now.

  1. Personally, I lean towards the destination is (mostly) decided, but the road is ours theory.โ€‚Total fate reduces us to robots with no real purpose.โ€‚Yet there have been too many lessons that wouldn’t be avoided.

    1. Indeed. I can;t imagine the point of the whole journey being totally scripted from start to finish. That’s kind of an eternal spoiler alert, which seems kind of lame to me.

  2. I agree similarly with this. I do think there is some destiny and fate involved, but we all have free will to make our choices. But I also do believe we are here to learn certain life lessons as well! (Unfortunately, sometimes!)

    1. Indeed. Some lessons I could have done without learning lol
Beyond that, I just can’t fathom that this whole ride is one set path.

      1. Itโ€™s very true! Many different paths you can take, for sure. Itโ€™s finding out what your passion and your drive is, and really feeling and knowing what you want your purpose to be.

      2. And that, for some, is the eternal riddle.
Perhaps we all know the answer, but some are afraid to actually act upon it.

      3. That is quite true too. There are so many different things Iโ€™ve wanted to start in life but havenโ€™t due to fear. Getting better at it! I think this goes for everyone, and everyone struggles with this at times.

      4. Oh, no doubt. There’s a few things right now I am hesitating to pull the trigger on, and there’s really no good reason why.
I did, however, make the decision that I do not feel like going back into an industry too similar to my previous one. And if I must as a stop gap, I’ve already decided that’s fine, but GTFO ASAP is the name of the game.

      5. I would as well! Iโ€™ve often thought about leaving nursing, and I donโ€™t think this is the only career Iโ€™ll have forever, for sure. If it doesnโ€™t make you happy and is toxic, leave it as quickly as possible.
And pull the trigger! Why are you hesitating?

      6. Mostly because I’m trying figure out if the juice is worth the squeeze. That, and the fact that even if I decide to venture into alternative streams of income, I will still need a regular 9-5 in the interim, so that’s priority number one right now. As far as the 9-5 goes, I am already looking at other industries, because mostly, I am bored with the one I just left. If I have to lean on my experience short term and do that, I will, but it’s merely going to be a weigh station for me. I wouldn’t want to do it for mare than a year or two tops.

      7. I can understand that. Sometimes you have to know itโ€™s going to be worth the effort.
