Six Songs You May Not Know

Or haven’t heard in a really long time.

I heard a few favorite songs the past couple days, and it occurred to me that they were ones that don’t get a lot of airplay anymore, or didn’t get a ton (or any!) back in the day.

Just for fun, I thought I would share a few of them wit y’all in the hopes that you might enjoy a few.

Brother Cane “Hard Act To Follow”

Brother Cane were a moderately successful act from the early 90s. They had another hit with the song “Got No Shame”, which is off their debut album, along with this song, which is my personal favorite from them.

Velvet Revolver “Mary Mary”

For those who recall, Velvet Revolver was the supergroup which featured Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum from Guns N’ Roses teaming up with Stone Temple Pilots vocalist, the late Scott Weiland. This was off their second, less popular, album, Libertad, and thus, didn’t receive a ton of airplay. This song was written as a tribute to Scott’s wife Mary. I absolutely love the feel of this song, particularly the little riff around 3:17. It also reminds me of a very special someone, whose name was not Mary, but the feelings were very much relatable.

Van Halen “The Trouble With Never”

Off the excellent 2012 release A Different Kind of Truth, the band’s first album with original frontman David Lee Roth, since 1984. This album cut is one of my favorites, and includes one of my favorite lyrics in “When you turn on your stereo does it return the favor?”. It’s got plenty of classic Eddie riffs, some kickass drumming from Alex, a spoken word interlude, and a ripping solo. RIP, Eddie. Still missing ya.

Zakk Wylde “Road Back Home”

Frequent Ozzy Osbourne collaborator, and one of my top three guitarists (Eddie and Randy Rhoads being nos. 1 and 2), Zakk Wylde has co-written some of Ozzy’s most popular later era songs, and is currently on the road with Pantera. This cut is off his solo album Book of Shadows, and is quite a departure from what he is most known for. It’s a beautiful song with great organ and piano work, along with two gorgeous guitar solos. I have also had the pleasure of meeting Zakk on two separate occasions, and can attest that he is one very cool and funny dude.

Kingdom Come “Get It On”

When this song first came out, the first thing literally everyone thought was “Holy shit! Led Zeppelin put out a new song??” Once the dust settled, we all learned otherwise. These guys got branded as ripoffs, and were derisively called “Kingdom Clone” by many in the music press, but goddamnit, this song absolutely rips. And truthfully, a lot of their other songs do too. But this one? In my opinion, hands down their best.

Ozzy Osbourne “Tonight”

Off Ozzy’s classic Diary of a Madman album, I am still surprised how many people actually don’t know this song. Personally, it is one of my favorite Ozzy tunes. It has an absolutely gorgeous melody, and the guitar work from the late, great Randy Rhoads is nothing short of astonishing. The outro solo alone makes him a legend, in my opinion. RIP, Randy. All these years later, we still miss your presence.

So, there you have it. Six songs you may not have heard before, or have not heard in a very long time. Hope y’all enjoy them. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜

Well mi amigo , you have proved that I’m old hard rock. I don’t know any of these artists ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜” to not waste a great day, I wish All of you well.

Shame on you if you block a fellow art without smashing their livelihood.

Next up, the Umlaufs, a group has offered their space to display and a class room, call me ASAP to discuss this.

Hey, I forgot all about Kingdom Come. Didn’t know anything about the controversy, since I always figured it was intentional and a kind of tribute.

    1. Typical cynical music press really. Someone will always take a shot at something. Whitesnake took their share of shots in the late 80s for being a Zep ripoff, with the press and Robert Plant even calling David Coverdale “David Cover Version”.

I had no idea about White Snake either, and think there’s less of a case there. It was a fun time.

      2. It was mostly the “Still of the Night” song, and the video in particular, as it has a Zeppelin like riff, and in the video they used the violin bows on the guitars the way Jimmy Page used to.

In an ironic twist, Jimmy Page and David Coverdale got together a few years later and released a killer album. lol
