Time for another edition of Six Song Sunday, where I toss out a few tunes that either you may not know, or have not heard in a mighty long time.

“Everything You Do (You’re Sexing Me)” – Fiona and Kip Winger

Fiona was a moderately successful singer in the mid to late 80s, and Kip Winger was the leader of his namesake band, Winger, whom Beavis and Butthead famously skewered on the MTV animated series. That said, I still never understood why this song wasn’t a hit. It’s got the provocative title, the video featured two attractive people who could actually sing, and it was before the B&B debacle and the dawn of grunge music, having been released in 1989. As a bonus for my fellow guitar nerds out there, it also features the great Brad Gillis (Night Ranger) on guitar. Anyhow, I like it, and for some strange reason it popped into my head recently. Check it out.

“Whatcha Do To My Body” – Lee Aaron

Lee Aaron is a Canadian rock and metal singer who never achieved massive success in the States, but was pretty popular in her native country. This song is off her 1989 album Bodyrock, which was her highest charting album to date, being certified Platinum at the end of that same year. Another artist I am surprised never broke through bigger, as she is a great vocalist and her songs are catchy as hell. She has a lot of cool songs, and this is one of my favorites. I am including the video version, as it differs slightly from the album version, and I like it just a bit more. The video itself is also pretty good, and looking at Lee has absolutely nothing to do with it, I assure you. ๐Ÿ˜Š And just to show she still has the pipes, below that is a home recorded version from the time that shall not be named.

“Lying” – Peter Frampton

Peter Frampton is best known of course for the massively successful Frampton Comes Alive! album in the 70s, which included the classics “Show Me The Way”, “Do You Feel Like We Do”, and several more. After the success of that album, the record label rushed to capitalize on it by rush releasing Peter’s next album against his wishes. The album received a lukewarm reception, and Peter mostly faded from public view. In the 80s, he released a couple albums and hit the comeback trail. His 1986 album, Premonition, included the lead-off single “Lying”. It is a well constructed song with great vocals and guitars, showing that Peter Frampton was indeed, still alive. While it did not exactly burn up the charts, it did get Peter back in the public eye, which led to an invitation to be the guitarist in longtime friend David Bowie’s band during his Glass Spider tour. Since that time, Peter has released many albums and toured extensively, cementing his status as a classic rock legend.

“Hotel California” – Jorn Lande

I wrote about Jorn is last week’s edition of Triple S. This week, I wanted to put up his cover of the Eagles classic. I think he treats his covers with a degree of respect. He doesn’t stray too far from the originals. He just makes them a little…crunchier. While i absolutely adore the original, I do enjoy Jorn’s version as well.

“All Lips ‘n’ Hips” – Electric Boys

Electric Boys are a Swedish band who came out in the late 80s. They were successful in their home country and Britain, but not so much in the U.S. market. Their calling card was mixing hair metal with elements of 60s/70s groove and psychedelic styles. This song, off their album Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride, is a pretty good example of that.

“Dirty Love” – Thunder

This song is one of my favorite “hidden gems”. Released in 1990, it was at the tail end of the 80s rock rush. Additionally, as they were originally signed to a UK record label (EMI), the U.S. counterpart (Capitol) did very little to support their debut album, Backstreet Symphony, which meant they were virtually unheard of over here. Truly it is a shame, as Thunder have some great straight up rockers. This one has it all to me: Crunchy guitars, great vocals, very catchy chorus, and even some “na, na, nas” thrown in for good measure. Try sitting still during this song at your own risk.

Triple S Bonus Track!

“Feel Your Love Tonight” – Van Halen

Okay, fine…So, it’s a Seven Song Sunday this week. If you thought the G-Man was going to rock the red and white stripes in his feature pic and not include my favorite fucking band ever, well…then y’all don’t know me very well. ๐Ÿ˜„

This track is off the legendary 1978 debut album. And while most people know “You Really Got Me”, “Eruption”, and “Runnin’ With The Devil”, this song is not quite as well known. But, my friends, I assure you…it absolutely cooks.

It’s Van Halen. It’s Eddie. Need I say more? RIP, Eddie. Still missing ya.

Okay than, that’s it for this week. Thanks for reading, and happy listening, all!
