Loyalty

I once was loyal, but no more

That feeling walked out through the door

These words I speak, I say them true

Don’t ever think they care for you

Shove you down and stab your back

Remind you of the things you lack

They care if you but serve them well

But if you don’t, your life is Hell

You know you did not deserve this

They send you with a viper’s kiss

Down the mountain, watch you fall

Then gone before your dying call

Your memory stashed on a shelf

Be loyal only to oneself

ยฉThe Beginning At Last

I wrote this before my brief respite. Right now, I have not felt the urge to write much poetry. I have been experimenting with different things on the site lately. Nothing too crazy, but little twists here and there. A little more of an amalgam of my older posts and my “newer” ones.

If the words come to me, I will surely write a poem, but at the moment they are not and I’m fine with that. I prefer the freedom of writing what, when or how I want that I am currently embracing.

Perhaps for NTT something will come to me (Yes, there will be an NTT this week. It’s already loaded in the chamber. ๐Ÿ˜‰).

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this piece.

  3. I find poetry writing akin to fishing. Sure, the poetry is there, but that is not why you fish. If that makes sense.

  10. I donโ€™t know if like is the word Iโ€™d use, itโ€™s a bit cynical, which I feel every once in a while too. ย I try not to let it get to me but if you read my blog, you see I can be downright sardonic.๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. This was written before my brief rest stop, but there are still elements of truth embedded in it for me. More and more I do feel we must prioritize ourselves first – Especially in work situations. A job is just a job, etc.
Sardonic eh? Word if the day now ๐Ÿ˜†

  11. I can’t think this of the world, Kevin. It would make me too sad to believe it is true. I am realistic. I know it is sometimes, but I have to look for the good, the kind, the light or my light will go out.

    1. I try to, Mary. This is just a snapshot in time when I wrote it, but there are some truths for me embedded within.

  13. Loyal to the truths of love, right? Not to little things like petty power hegemonies and unspoken expectations.

They came to you for your nobility in truth, if they want to stay with you they must remain similarly committed.

And therein lies the seed of betrayal ~ most often a combination of jealousy and fear of discovery, and just din’t want to make the effort. People like us get blindsided by it, right?

Hard to see from here, but the world will regain its poetic color. Give it a little time.

    1. I’m sure it will in time, yes. For now. I follow the creative road wherever it leads.
Some don’t deserve loyalty, and certainly not the soulless who will throw us under at the drop of a hat.

  14. Nah be loyal because that what we are ‘Good people’. We have our own character. Loved the poem though. And I like the thought about freedom of writing. Its a need at times.

    1. Loyal to oneself first. And then to those who deserve it. “Me first” might sound selfish, but to be true and loyal to oneself and our values first can allow us to be more loyal to others who deserve it.
