12.29.24: The Great Banishment continues, so I am updating this prompt from last year with a fresh coat of paint.
This prompt makes me feel like I’m playing GM Mode in a video game here.
Never mind that it doesn’t even ask you what sport this team would be playing or anything.
Anyhow, I am going to make this real easy on myself.
I am going to rip off the color scheme and mascot of my favorite (non-sports) team ever: The United States Marine Corps.
The colors would be red and gold and the mascot would be a bulldog.

Normally, I am a darker tones kind of guy, but there is nothing like seeing the Marine Corps colors flying high.
But more importantly than that, this prompt has the word “team” in it and nowhere in my life have I seen the concept of teamwork taught and lived like I did in the USMC.
From day one you are taught that no one is any better than the person next to them. There was no color barrier. We were all just different shades of green.
You pushed each other, you motivated each other, and if a man went down, you picked him right back up.
No man left behind. It was the very essence of esprit de corps.

We may have argued, we may have disagreed at times. Hell, sometimes we literally fought each other just like brothers will. But at the end of the day you never held a grudge because you respected that man and you knew you had each other’s backs.
Whether it be a military operation, a business venture or a professional sport, the success of any team depends on everyone’s focus and trust in each other.
Without that you might as well just throw a white flag up instead.
Semper Fi.
