Hello and welcome to this week’s Triple S. Going to try and dig up a few tunes you’ve not heard in a spell, or perhaps haven’t heard before.

The Gorilla took the morning off and asked Mr. Moonweasel to cover this edition. So, without further ado…

“Na Na Kiss Him Goodbye” – Axxis

Axxis is a power metal band from Germany who have been active since 1988, and are quite popular in Europe, where the power metal style tends to be most successful. This is their cover of the classic “Na, na, na, na, hey, hey” tune we all know and love. I like this cover a lot, and they have several others as well. Perhaps I shall share more in the coming weeks.

“Still Alive And Well” – Johnny Winter

Johnny Winter is a legendary blues rock guitarist who was active from the late 60s almost up to his death in 2014. I first heard of Johnny via his album Live Johnny Winter And when I was a young lad, and have been a fan ever since. He released over 20 albums in his career, and this song, the title track of his 1973 album, is a total ass kicker.

“Lay Your Body Down” – Poison

Released as a new track on Poison’s Greatest Hits: 1986 – 1996 collection, this is a classic Poison power ballad, that had it been released 8 – 10 years earlier, likely would have been a huge hit. It reminds me a bit of “Something To Believe In” in tone, if not subject matter. Poison released a few tracks that were quite strong in the late-90s/early 00s that would have done well if not for the musical climate at the time. That said, they did quite well on the nostalgia circuit during this period and put on some damn fun concerts.

“Romeo Delight” – Van Halen

Off the 1980 classic Women and Children First, this tune is absolutely slammin’. A concert favorite for many, many years, it is not as well known as other tracks off the album, but it deserves it’s place on the list as one of VH’s absolute killers. Dave often “forgot the words” to this one live, which became part of his schtick thereafter. Legendary. RIP, Eddie. Still missing ya.

“Back Into You” – Sammy Hagar

A track off Sammy’s 1987 album I Never Said Goodbye. This album was part of a deal with Sammy’s then label, Geffen Records, to allow him to join Van Halen, who were on Warner Bros., in 1985. Where most artists put out a blow off album to fulfill contractual obligations, Sammy put out one of the best of his solo career. Featuring his newfound friend Eddie Van Halen on bass, this album is full of killer cuts, of which “Back Into You” is one.

“Love Me” – Tesla

This song is off Tesla’s 1986 debut album Mechanical Resonance. Funny that back in the day when they were opening for David Lee Roth, everyone was saying “Who, or what, is a Tesla?” These days, you can’t get away from the name. Anyhow, turns out that Tesla is a kickass band with some killer tunes. Of which “Love Me” is one. This is one of my favorite Tesla songs, and might even be tied with another for the number one spot. Perhaps I’ll share that one next week.

Anyhow, that’s it for this week! Hope y’all enjoy! Moonweasel out! ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜

  3. Love to the moon weasel! Tesla is from my hometown and my sister-in-law, and her bestie were better-halves too Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch. My ex-bro-in-law said he was cousins to Jeff Keith, but cuz is subjective around these parts (lol). Excellent list of rock tune-age !!!
