30-Day Pushup Challenge (Days 1-5)

So, one of my short term goals going into this year was to get back into decent shape. I had started before the end of 2023, but I decided to up the ante slightly and issue myself a 30-Day Pushup Challenge.

My criteria for this challenge is fairly simple:

Each day for the next 30 days, I will aim to perform at least 200 pushups. They can be done all at once or completed throughout the day, as long as a minimum of 200 are done. On regular workout days these will be an addition to my routine. A little extra spice to the sauce, if you will.

I will use different styles of pushups as I feel compelled to do so. It might be standard military pushups, Hindu pushups, diamond pushups or a combination of several types. Everything’s on the table here! The only caveat is sticking to this daily for the prescribed number of reps.

So, without further ado, here are this week’s results:

01/01/24:

225 pushups completed. Nine sets of 25 reps completed during the morning while I had a coffee and wrote/read here on WP. Did a mix of standard pushups and diamond pushups. Reps were done slowly to maximize time under tension (TUT). Since it was day one, I aid what the hell and did an extra 25!

01/02/24:

200 pushups completed. Did them in 2 sets of 100 just because my mood was terrible, I felt a bit under it and I wanted them done and out of the way. They weren’t done with the best form, but they did get done.

01/03/24:

200 pushups completed. Did a set of 25 reps while having my coffee and reading/blogging. Took a break to get another coffee and pounded out the remaining 175 in one shot. They went fast because I did them plyometric style. Which is basically, fast, explosive bursts. Think Stallone doing clapping pushups in the Rocky movies and you get the idea.

01/04/24:

200 pushups completed. Did a set of 75 while I was making coffee and then another set of 125 in the middle of reading/blogging. Just finished up with 4 sets of 10 hammer curls and one set of triceps extensions for 30 reps. Every day is arm day in my world!

01/05/24:

200 pushups completed. One set of 200 partial rep diamond pushups. Kept tension on the triceps the entire time. Got very tough around rep # 131, but I got them done!

Observations:

A couple days of this were tough, but I think it was more my mood about other things that influenced that. There were a couple down days where I did not want to do ANYTHING, let alone 200 pushups. But, I committed to it and I am proud to say I did so. This is a mindset I am also trying to apply to other areas of my life as well. Just freaking get it done.

    1. If you space them throughout the day it’s really not too bad actually. I’ve done more in the past.
      One time I decided to do 1,000 in one day just to say I did. That was fun. Well, not really lol
