Get Up! (Poem)

Get up!

Pull yourself up off your knees

Get up!

Can’t you see that you are free?

Get Up!

Stand up straight and seize your crown

Get up!

Don’t let the bastards wear you down

Get up!

Don’t you wallow there in vain

Get up!

Learn to weaponize your pain

Get up!

Though you struggle day and night

Get up!

Throw yourself into the fight

Get up!

Wasting life is such a sin

Get up!

Don’t you ever let them win

©The Beginning At Last

This one is dedicated to everyone out there who is fighting the good fight day in and day out. Fighting for their health, for their family, for a better way of life.

Each and every one of us has a struggle. Some are known to others, and some are fought from within. While I may not walk in your shoes or even know you, I am thinking of you, pulling for you and I respect you for getting up and getting it done, even when it hurts too much to do so.

Some days you will falter and some days you won’t have the strength.

But you will find that strength, you will rise up, and ultimately, you will dominate.

Now, get up. Because that’s what you do.

The inspiration for this poem was the song “Get Up” by Van Halen, off their 5150 album. I’ve included it below for anyone needing an extra shot of adrenaline in your morning coffee.

  1. Yeah, this will be my mantra. “Learn to weaponize your pain”, been doing this for years without having the words. Thank you for this Kevin.

    1. Thank you, Chris! What I have read of your journey is a prime example of which I speak. Always pushing, and I salute that. Have an awesome day!

I was on my hands and knees this midday.

    Cleaning the bathroom floor 😆

    Kidding aside. It’s good advice!

    1. Well, unfortunately, those bathrooms won’t clean themselves. Yet, at least! 😄

      Thanks much!

  3. I’ve been fighting for my health so strongly recently and I’m constantly getting up and fighting so hard for the answers. I’m terrified of the end result but I can’t ignore things anymore. I just need to keep on getting up. Thanks for your encouraging poem.

      1. Yes, I am hanging on in here just one day at a time. It’s hard to see the finish line sometimes, but I am doing my best.

      2. Understandable. Sometimes the finish line is a lot closer than we think even if we can’t immediately see it. I’ll be pulling for ya!
