EVH FTW

Daily writing prompt
If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

I know there will probably be a ton of replies saying we shouldn’t want to be anyone but ourselves, and some who would pick someone else for a much nobler cause, and I respect that 100%.

I, however, and I am sure this will not shock much of anyone, would take the opportunity to be Edward Van Halen for the day.

And it would not be for the rock star excesses, the women or the fame. It would be for the sheer pleasure of sitting in the 5150 studio, guitar in hand, experiencing what it’s like to have that much raw, natural talent, and to know what it’s like to create something that will bring joy to millions of people.

Music has been a major part of my life for many a moon, and Van Halen was, and always will be, my first musical love. That music has been associated with so many major moments in my life, that I can’t even explain. And frankly, most would not understand.

I’ll just say that there were two occasions where I could have lost the most precious thing in my life, and some nights all I had was a stiff drink, a bucket full of tears, and a Van Halen CD to keep me remotely whole.

To know the joy of creating something that could potentially impact someone’s life like that would mean the world to me.

To you, “Unchained” may be just a song. To me, it’s motivation drenched in rocket fuel.

To you, “Not Enough” is just a sappy ballad. To me, it is every ounce of pain I am feeling at a moment in time. Especially the solo that sounds like a thousand angels crying.

Yeah. For me, it’s EVH FTW.

Rest In Peace, Eddie. Still missing ya.

    1. I feel like music, and his music in particular, speaks to me on a different level and always has, In my opinion, he is the greatest rock guitarist of all time.

      1. Everyone has that one musician that we resonate with deeply. For me it’s IU AND BTS. Even though they sing in a different language, I get them. Surely will πŸ€—

      2. A famous musician once said when you can feel it, it’s real. You don’t need to know the language when you have the feeling.
When someone’s music can give you goosebumps, you’ve found the one.

      4. That song has what I feel is one of his most emotional, gut wrenching guitar solos. Beautifully composed.
