The Sound of Daydreams

My pick from this week’s No Theme Thursday images.

The Sound of Daydreams

Out on the stoop, the setting sun

Her favorite song, you know the one

You know the tune, you know the beat

You hear it up and down the street

The song that takes her breath away

The one that makes her body sway

The song that lets her dare to dream

When life just isn’t what it seems

When sirens blare, turn up the bass

One day she’ll escape this place

The tempo lifts her to the sky

As tears of joy well in her eyes

Far from the guns, far from the knife

One day soon she’ll leave this life

And when it’s time to walk away

You know for sure what song she’ll play

ยฉ The Beginning At Last

I got stuck in a couple spots. I just kept trying to imagine it as a song in my head to try and make it as seamless as I could. I wanted to do something a bit different than my normal dark poems

I don’t know that I had any particular artist in mind, I just had a feel I was trying to capture, but I’ll certainly take that. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

fyi, I heard Van Halen at the grocery store this morning. Couldnโ€™t determine which one, though. It was DLR era. ๐Ÿ˜Š

      12. 40s, 50s, I dunno. Nat King Cole and shit like that. I don’t mind it at all, it’s just funny right after Led Zeppelin comes on lol

      13. It is kind of weird. I was thinking swing music came on and people started๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿป in the aisles. Or maybe thatโ€™s just me.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
My store will play Michael Jackson, followed by REO Speedwagon, then Cyndi Lauper, then Van Halen, then Led Zeppelin lol

      16. I’m not sure if it’s done onsite in my store or if the music is piped from one location to all the stores in the chain. I suspect the latter.

      17. My store is a standalone store. Privately owned.

      18. Mine’s a regional chain and it sounds the same no matter which one I go to, so I’ve always suspected the latter.

      19. Makes sense. Sometimes my store has classic rock but sometimes it has a mixture. I like when itโ€™s mostly 80s pop. Then I never get any any shopping done. Iโ€™m just dancing. ๐Ÿ˜Š

      20. Sometimes they’ll play one of the old Nat King Cole songs and I’ll sing along, which always messes with people lol

Hey, the music is in Fallout, damn it ๐Ÿคฃ

  4. Yaaaaass Kevin!!! Loved this poem and the beautiful girl daydreaming on the steps is stunning. Flawless. I’d love to hear what she’s listening to. In my mind, it’s something by the Fugees. Lauren Hill’s voice is like smooth velvet. What’s great about your poem is the hope for something better – to an amazing soundtrack ๐Ÿ™‚ great job my friend!

  5. This poem is beautifully evocative, capturing both the power of music to transport us and the longing for a better life amidst challenging circumstances. The imagery of the setting sun and the emotions tied to the song create a vivid scene that’s both hopeful and poignant. Itโ€™s amazing how you’ve conveyed such deep emotions and a narrative of aspiration and dreams through the rhythm and flow of your words. How did you find the inspiration for this particular piece, and is there a specific song that inspired you or that you had in mind while writing this poem?

    1. Hey Justin,
      Thanks very much. ๐Ÿ˜Š
No, there was no particular song in mind at the time. I had a feeling and beat in my head, but it wasn’t any one song in particular. The inspiration was really just every day life and people I’ve known. Who among us hasn’t sat out at night, or gone driving around, with nothing but a song in our ears and a dream in our heads? I’ve also known a lot of people in less than desirable situations who confided in me their dreams to be out of the life they were in. Some of them had little more than a dream to hold onto, and when you hear and see that, it has an effect on you.
