Little Six Million Dollar Man reference for y’all.
Working in a management role of any kind means that tech has certainly impacted my job. Oftentimes, I would end up spending more time sitting on my tail in my office on virtual meetings than anything else.

Now, I don’t know about y’all, but I have one hell of a time staying engaged during these meetings, especially when all the parties involved are onsite and available. During Covid or when a needed team member is off site? Yeah, I get it. But when people are calling Teams meetings because they don’t feel like getting off their lazy ass and going to a conference room down the hall? Please. 🙄
God forbid we interact face-to-face or anything.
And of course, with tech comes the inevitable onslaught of spreadsheets and Power Point presentations. Everyone needs a spreadsheet for every little fucking thing, and of course, everyone loves their pretty little slide shows.

Now, does it make things easier in some regards? Yes indeed. If I was home sick, I could still connect with my team to see how things were going, answer questions, attend those mandatory meetings, etc.

As tech continues to develop it will continue to impact not only my, but a lot of people’s jobs. Advances in automation, AI and other software are accelerating rapidly, and the reality, for better or worse, is that businesses who don’t keep up will struggle to compete and lose out to their better equipped, more efficient competitors.
I figure at some point in time the manager of the future will look a little something like this.
