Saturday Summary, And…

A bit of a rant.

We’ll start with the summary.

So, this week was mostly ups with a few minor hiccups. Started the new job Tuesday, and overall, it went well. Everyone thus far has been very cool and seems to like the place. Even the grouchy employees acknowledge that the place is pretty good, which bodes well for the most part.

They have gripes of course, and nothing’s perfect, but the vibe is mostly relaxed, and when things are running well, the job seems quite easy. With what I came from, most anything would look easy if I am being truthful.

Did have a snafu on day three, when I woke up sick AF, but I was able to pull it together and make up the day yesterday, so I could end on a good note.

The Agoge Update.

So, I started my little personal “agoge” experiment a couple weeks back. I wont sit here and say it’s been stellar, but it has not been all bad. I’ve been able to keep the exercise portion up, including a 1,000 rep workout a week or so back, which I am pretty proud of. The things that have suffered most have been the reading and writing. I still need to figure out the routine and where everything fits with the new job. It’ll be fine. Just going to take some tweaking here and there.

And now, the rant.

Seriously, WP…What the fuck?

This shit is annoying. In addition to the usual b.s. like pingbacks being inconsistent and random unsubscriptions, I’ve now run into issues logging in the past couple days. Keep getting some stupid error about being unable to retrieve info or some such. It takes three to four attempts on average. And, once I am logged in, when I go to comment on people’s pages, it will randomly decided to tell me I am not logged in, when I clearly freaking am.

I’ve had to give up on leaving comments in more than one case and settle for a like, which does not thrill me. But mind you, it’s not every page. It’s just a random occurrence.

And then the capper. The people, like Amy, who keep getting kicked off WP for no apparent fucking reason.

Ya know…it’s really frustrating for those of us who want to interact with our WP friends regularly. Not to mention that it’s frustrating to the blog owners, as they feel badly, because they are struggling to reply to people who like or comment on their posts.

I can’t speak for all bloggers, but some of us truly value the interaction, and when the ability to reliably reply and interact is taken away from us, we feel badly, because we don’t want people to feel they are being ignored.

And we might even, oh, I don’t know, want to post and fucking create on a semi-regular basis? ๐Ÿ™„

It’s goddamn pathetic, especially since a fair portion of folks are forking over their hard-earned cash to have these blogs. Customer service, my ass.

For the love of the gorilla gods, just fix the issues and stop with the random updates that don’t do shit!

Oh, this might explain why the engagement on my site has been so low this past few days. It’s significantly lower than usual, both in views and comments.

I also have noticed the problem with logging in and leaving comments. I usually copy what I’ve written and then leave my comment from the notifications or the reader, depending on where I’ve clicked on the link to get to a blog.

I’m glad either way that your first job week is going well, even though you were sick there for a day. It could’ve been worse. โค๏ธ

    1. Yes, numbers are down for me as well. Granted, I have not been on as much the past week, but it’s still very, very low even taking that into account.

Thank you. Yes, it could have gone worse. Overall, I am quite happy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Oh, that confirms it then. It’s a WordPress bug that makes visitors somehow not finding our blogs in the reader or something.

        Thanks for sharing that!

  2. Congratulations on your new job! Sounds like a time of change, what with creating a new routine accounting for work and your “agoge” experiment in addition to reading and writing. I’m gearing up for a significant change in routine beginning two weeks from now. All the best with your transition! Sounds like you’re doing just fine ๐Ÿ™‚

Best of luck to you as well! I hope everything goes just as you plan it! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. I thought it was just me having issues, plus their mobile app is…almost unusable for me. My views are down as well, I thought it was due to the lack of interaction on my part. Good luck with your Agoge โค๏ธ

    1. No, it is not just you, Aboli. My views are down, as are many others’. I don’t use the mobile app, but I know Amy does and she said the same. It’s truly disgraceful. I miss you all and when I have the chance to be here, these issues just sully the experience.
      Thank you. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  4. Agree on all points. ย It is frustrating and you would think with all the interruptions in poems and stories with usually obnoxious ads, that they could provide a better platform. ย I value the interaction and commenting back and forth – thatโ€™s the main reason Iโ€™m doing the blog now. Itโ€™s great to meet people from all over the world and hear about their lives. ย Good luck๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

    1. The community is truly the only reason I hang around. If not for that, I’d hit the bricks and get to steppin’, because this is ridiculous at times.
They could do so much better by us, but it feels at times like they simply refuse to do so.

๐Ÿค” Hmm. From what I have gathered, WordPress is acting up.

I made a vow to blog exclusively via the Jetpack mobile app for the month of April.

Therefore, I would not know if people are unable to like and comment on other people’s blog posts via the web version of WordPress.

I have learned that those who use Jetpack for iOS cannot comment on other blogs.

I am using Jetpack for Android without any issues. I can create and publish blog posts via the Jetpack mobile app and I can also comment on other blogs using the same Jetpack mobile app.

It looks as though the Happiness Engineers have their work cut out for them.

Do enjoy the rest of your day, Kevin.

    1. Thank you, Renard. I am glad it is not impacting you adversely. It is very frustrating enough to know that some of my favorite bloggers are having these issues. I am grateful you are not one.
Take care and have a fantastic weekend, my friend!

    1. I’m not sure, but some of it may be related, I don’t know. I do know another blogger has done some research and said that WP is having issues and are not directly addressing them, instead focusing on just releasing updates that seem to be creating more glitches. I believe he is still looking deeper, but that in itself is highly agitating if true.

  9. So since I am a cyber guy and have former pals and colleagues in all kinds of agencies and cyber technology fields across the globe, the information Im getting and seeing is related to the deep scrubbing of
    Scammer accounts on all platforms
criminal activity on all platforms including human trafficking and Pe do files.
A cyber purge migration while inconvenient now, will greatly improve how we all communicate with each other moving forward!!

Disconnecting the trash from the treasure is in cyber terms, a very, very complicated process!!

    1. Thank you for the detailed reply, sir.
I am sure it’s not an easy process at all.

It just feels like not even one little thing improves. Just feels like every day there’s a new glitch making it harder to do anything.
That, and while I am not naive enough to think they’ll spill the beans, at least an acknowledgement from WP saying they’re aware and working on it, instead of just firing out updates with no heads up or anything. At lease a facade that they even give a shit about their users/paying customers would be kind of nice.

      1. I have been in the game long enough to know NONE of them
        give a Shit about customers.
I know because 15 years about wordpress cost me about 100.00 per year and now to get the exact same server functions and email it’s like 650.00, im already looking to migrate my own site out of WP becoming my most most underperforming now

  11. I have finally made it here! I agree 100% with your rant. The ongoing problem of being unsubscribed from blogs is driving me crazy. My concern is people think Iโ€™m unsubscribing intentionally, but itโ€™s not the case. The other thing is my traffic is way down over the past few days. Iโ€™m reading that others are having the same problem. itโ€™s disheartening to have all these issues when you just want to interact with fellow bloggers.

The good news is I was able to get on again. The bad news is that when I click on a notification to go to a comment, It doesnโ€™t take me to the comment. I have to do it all over again and then it brings me to the comment that I want to reply to. ๐Ÿ™„

  12. Yes! I wish there was a “love” button, not just a “like” button because I can’t agree with your rant more! There are a couple blogs that no matter how many times I subscribe, I find that, in fact, I’m not. And leaving and replying to comments is so irritating at times. I’m sorry you have had trouble with my site. You’re definitely not the only one. I run into the “you’re not logged in” problem, too, and it’s frustrating.

WP though…โ€‚Yeah…โ€‚This party sucks.โ€‚I swear they hired the dev team from either Bethesda Software or Electronic Arts with the idea that the users are actually beta testers and will put up with garbage indefinitely.

IIRC it took about 9 months to get the block editor as correct as it is now.
