I’ve been on this road forever
For damnation and a day
It’s a road that’s too familiar
And it only leads one way
At a rest stop met a devil
In his eyes a wicked gleam
He was selling me a promise
Everything of which I dreamed
No downpayment he required
Said we’d settle up some day
When I asked him what the catch was
He said just sign, no need to pay
He handed me a parchment
And a pen with ink too red
I could feel my hands were shaking
I heard a voice inside my head
There were words below so fine
Words that hardly could be read
As I squinted hard to read them
He snatched the parchment from my hand
He looked desperate, he looked angry
How could I turn down such a deal?
It was everything I wanted
And the price it was a steal
You see, the devil’s in the details
He glared at me his eyes a glint
His deal was damned enticing
Until I looked at the fine print
