The Wait For Freedom

You think this cage can hold me?

Do you think these shackles bind?

Do you think I cannot see it?

Do you really think I’m blind?

Your lips speak self-assurance

I can see within your eyes

I can see the fear you carry

Filled with fear that I will rise

That I will rise up to defeat you

I will come to take what’s mine

I can see your hands are shaking

It is there, so ever slight

It’s just a tiny little tremor

It betrays your lack of might

You don’t have the will to best me

And you know this truth deep down

You know that I will slay you

I’ll take your head and then your crown

As you lay upon your pillow

Only thoughts are thoughts of me

The thought of what is coming

When from these shackles I am free

ยฉThe Beginning At Last

  1. A very relatable poem. We all have people or things that have tried to hold us back that we need to get past to be truly free. Well written.

    1. Thank you, Pooja! I am very glad you like it.
My poems tend to drift to the dark side, but I try and show the light at the end of the tunnel when I can lol

      1. I tend to prefer darker poems so I always enjoy yours and it’s nice to have a more uplifting end.

      2. I think the darker stuff had always been my way of filtering out the negative emotions. They don’t all end on a hopeful note, but I try lol

      3. Yeah, I think poetry can often be like therapy. I feel that way about it too.

Though sometimes I wonder what is true freedom. Do you think freedom is an illusion?

    1. To a degree it may be an illusion, but should that stop one from trying to seek it out?
And what about the little freedoms we do have that we can utilize every day? The freedom to make someone’s day better, the freedom to set some personal boundaries for ourselves. The freedom to choose what we will or won’t tolerate in a relationship?

Freedom can take on many forms.

      1. Thank you for sharing with me your viewpoint on freedom. I always thought freedom was some grandiose thing, but you’ve showed me that some small freedoms can be applied to our daily life.

      2. In this life, take every little bit you can get, I say
It might not seem like much but at the end of the day it adds up
