Upon Mountain High

A darkened night on mountain high

A raven’s view of Hell

I’ve seen this view a thousand times

Indeed I know it well

I watch the battles far below

They seem to never change

Crusades are launched in name of love

Sometimes in name of rage

Some battles I have taken up

Sometimes I’ve walked away

I’ve reveled in the glory

I’ve suffered through the pain

I’ve seen death you can’t imagine

Both friend and foe seen pass

I’ve seen some be forged like iron

Dreams a shattered looking glass

Here upon this mountain

I’ve seen the worst, I’ve seen the best

While this battle ever rages

I know my eyes will never rest

ยฉ The Beginning At Last

  1. This is an amazing poem that really resonated with me. I have also witnessed a lot and fought through what felt like was hell, but Iโ€™m also still here standing on the mountain, always looking below and observing.

    1. Melissa, thank you so much. I am very glad you like it. We all have our battles and I feel we can all relate to that feeling. The important thing is we never, ever give up.

    1. Thank you, Destiny. Honestly, in looking back there are some I wish I had not taken up. They ultimately proved not worth it.

      1. we tend to realise that too late ๐Ÿ˜ฌ but the lessons for such are for keeps…i suspect we will continue to take up some that are not worth it… the cycle is ongoing… to learn as we go along

      2. Well, I’ve never met a windmill I didn’t like to try fighting, so I am sure I will take up more lost causes before my time here is up. Even if it is against my better judgement lol

That said, you observation that the lessons stay with us is true indeed.

Yes, I believe a lot of us can relate to this feeling. There are so many battles being fought every day. Large, small, public and personal. Some seen, some not. Thank you for reading!
