Pick It Up

As you walk right out the door

Please pick my heart up off the floor

Toss it in the corner, please

Right next to all the broken dreams

The dreams we had, the dreams that died

It can sit next to the tears we cried

The tears like not so gentle rain

A few of joy, but mostly pain

The tears we cried most every night

We tried like hell to make it right

Mistakes we made, both you and I

The tears are welling in our eyes

Here we go now once again

You’re asking me “Remember when?”

And I remember all too clear

Just how I longed to have you near

You and me, no going back

A memory cut, a fade to black

We grew so close, we grew apart

We hit the end and then it starts

I want you back, now go away

Where did you go, why won’t you stay?

My heart, it can’t take anymore

Please leave it lying on the floor

ยฉThe Beginning At Last

      2. Thank you, truly. I think we’ve all been there at least a few times in our life and have a poem of our own deep within us for times like those.

  2. Oh gosh, this poem made me feel a whole mix of emotions and reminded me of all the sadness I felt when people I thought who caed about me just left me.

The desperation and pain is enough to literally make one’s heart ache. Perhaps we can only rely on ourselves to pick our own heart up off the floor?

    1. At the end of the day, a lot of that does have to come from within ourselves, I think.
You may have people to encourage and support you, but it’s still up to us as individuals to make some effort.
