Hello all. Hope everyone’s been well. I have not had a ton of free time lately, so my posts and replies have been quite sporadic.
For the TLDR folks: I’ve been wading through a bit of red tape, had some family functions to attend to, and recently went and saw Sammy Hagar in concert.
For those who wish to read a bit more:
Still in pre-employment process for new job, target to start is in the next couple weeks. Had some family functions to go to, since no one was around for July 4th weekend. Everyone wanted to get together and do the thing. π
Went and saw Sammy Hagar recently on his Best of All Worlds tour. He’s on the road with Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham, playing a set of songs from across his career, but focusing mainly on Van Halen’s music.
After Eddie passed away, there was talk of getting everyone from the various incarnations of Van Halen together for a large tribute show, but sadly, that never materialized. My favorite band: Dysfunctional to the last. π€·ββοΈ
In the wake of that, there were rumors of different tours celebrating Eddie and VH music, but those did not come to fruition either.
Finally, Sammy and Mike decided to get together and do something. They recruited Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham to hit the road with them.
As a die hard Van Halen fan, it was truly great to hear a lot of these songs live again. Some having not been played live since the late 1980s.
The band sounded great, and when you take into account that Sammy is in his late 70s, it’s even more impressive. Mike is rock solid on the bass and still has the pipes, and Jason Bonham is a beast on drums just like his dad.
No one will ever replace Eddie, but Joe Satriani, is, of course, incredible. He played his ass off and payed just the right amount of homage to the guitar parts and added some flair of his own.
All in all, it was a great night and a chance to celebrate Van Halen’s legacy, remember Eddie and all the great music he left behind.
And yes, the set was heavy on Van Hagar era songs, because well…duh. π
And yes, I did get choked up for a second when the stripes came up and they broke into “Jump”. ππ
