Napping

What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

I am sure by now, many regular readers are thinking “Damn, this guy sure sleeps a lot” based on the amount of times I talk about it.

In reality, I don’t. That’s the funny thing about working at night. You really don’t tend to sleep as much as you should.

Of course, I am sure there are folks who do, but everyone has different situations. Some of them have second jobs, kids or other family commitments and things like that to attend to. Others just plain have trouble sleeping during daylight hours.

Another challenge is weekends. It’s your one chance to live like a “normal” person and do stuff during the daylight hours. So, a lot of us end up flipping our schedules to live semi-normally for a day or so, and then switch right back to night mode on Sunday or Monday. After a while, that takes it’s toll as well.

So, while I often make cracks about WP leaving me alone while I nap, there is a good amount of truth behind the joke.

Other than some exercise and a bit of errands in the morning, the rest of my day will be dedicated to relaxing and trying to get as much sleep as possible before I revert to vampire mode again. It is definitely the number one thing tomorrow, and really, most days.

Have a good one, y’all. Get some sleep!

  2. Long distance driving tends to give me a hangover fatigue. My watch tells me that my heart rate is 20bpm faster when behind the wheel, even when relaxed. A few hundred km later…

    1. I tend to feel like a total zombie after long drives. It’s more tiring than work in it’s own way

      1. I feel the same. I can barely write reports the day after I see patients.

      2. Reports are tough enough to get through on a good day in my experience lol

  3. I am always amazed at people who work switch shifts – 2/3 weeks nights, then 2/3 weeks day shifts, on repeat, at nauseam, without being monsters. Enjoy your nap!

    1. I don’t do that, it’s all nights, but the days off can be a challenge indeed.

  4. Iโ€™m sure regular readers are thinking, โ€œThis guy sleeps a lot!โ€ But the truth is, working nights leaves little time for sleep. Everyone has different situationsโ€”some juggle second jobs, kids, or just canโ€™t sleep during the day. Weekends are a whole other challenge, flipping back to โ€œnormalโ€ life only to revert to night mode by Monday. So, while I joke about napping, thereโ€™s some truth in it!

    1. It’s hit or miss, but that’s one of the perils of this schedule. “Normal” is not the default setting lol

  7. Can confirm, you do not sleep enough! Iโ€™d hate to say, you may even be worse than me sometimes, and Iโ€™ve been an insomniac my entire life.

I used to hate that as well. Always with people โ€œoh, youโ€™re always sleeping!โ€ Lol, bitchโ€ฆyou try working nights! ๐Ÿ˜†

Most people canโ€™t do it. And technically, if I wasnโ€™t doing the WFH job, Iโ€™d still be on nights. (I am at the other job as you know).

I definitely thought if I answered this prompt my number 1 would be sleep too lol ๐Ÿคช you get all the sleep you need, please – and then some, because Iโ€™d wager youโ€™re more sleep-deprived than anything. Especially since you work so hard.

Sorry for the little bit of a rant there ๐Ÿ˜œ you know how I feel about it

    1. Yes, my sleep is definitely “skewed” to put it one way ๐Ÿ˜„

I think it comes down to, for a lot of folks, that they forget when they’re asleep, there are other folks actually up and working. I think it just doesn’t occur to most, you know?

And yes, I think anyone who works an off shift of any kind would probably have this in their top three issues, easily. I am far from the only one.

No worries, and yes, I know how you feel about it ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Very true. When people say โ€œoh I donโ€™t know how you do it!โ€ Umm, I have no choice?

Meanwhile, even when you worked days, your sleep was off.

My sleep is still offโ€ฆAnd now talking about sleep has made me extremely sleepy and I just want to take a dang nap. ๐Ÿ˜ด

      2. I’ll be heading that way pretty dang soon.
Yeah, I am not the greatest sleeper. I swear I used to sleep 12 hours at a stretch, Not anymore…lol

      3. I canโ€™t either anymore. If I can get 7 hours of that really good sleep, uninterrupted (maybe 3 times ever before in my life) I feel so amazing afterwards.

        Like chasing it. So hard.

      4. I may even sleep 7 hours, but I wake up three or four times in between for at least a couple minutes.

      5. Yeah thatโ€™s what I mean by uninterrupted, or other words not waking up. A rarity, that one.

      6. Yeah, even a couple minutes makes a difference for sure.
