Is it just me, or is it dead ’round here lately?

Is there a blogging strike that I’m unaware of?

Is there an uprising against the “not even good enough to be mediocre” prompts?

I mean, I made a sign just in case…

Better prompts or we strike!

I don’t know what’s up, but I do know I am not the only one who’s noticed it’s been dead as a doornail around here lately. Especially the past three or four days.

I know there were some holidays recently in multiple locales. Is that part of it? Everyone still in recovery mode?

I do know last week it was lagging on me a lot, but every other site I visited was fine. 🤷‍♂️

Is this just one of those ebbs and flows we see from time to time? Inquiring apes wanna know!

Whatever it is, hopefully it passes soon, and I hope everyone is, at the end of the day, okay.

Oh, and if we’re on strike…Can someone tell me where? Because there’s no one else out here picketing but me. Feeling kinda silly…🙄

    Sometimes you have to step back to see the whole picture as they say. I have set two days for blogging Mondays and Fridays. I am happy with the likes I am getting on my travel blog. My animal and poetry blogs have more likes than they did which is good. Now my final problem is how to get more attention to my music blog. Other than that I am here also enjoying your posts.

      Yes, I am sure there’s a lot more to it then I am seeing. I just noticed the past few days it seemed very, very quiet, even for a weekend it was quiet compared to the usual number of posts I see.

    I’ve only been regularly since early 2024 but I’ve already noticed several repeats of the same topic, slightly reworded. Plus the topic du jour seems to be jumping back and forth between present and preceding day. We got a notification from a new WP mucky muck that he was gonna improve things “So we got THAT goin’ for us… which is nice.”

    Maybe if the topic of the day is really lame, we could just make up our own topic…at least we’d get to read each others’ content 😎

      A lot of folks have suggested just that – come up with our own daily prompts. The kicker is that would be tough to manage.
      Well, here’s my first suggestion for Mr. Muckity – Stop changing things at random without any notice! LOL

        I’m sure we could think of something, but then again the whole reason people use the prompts a lot of times is because it’s 3x more traffic when you do. 🤷‍♀️

        Well, that is definitely a motivator, yes. That’s why I don’t see them going away or improving anytime soon. Hell, some people can’t even answer them because they already did a year ago! lol

        Maybe we could really go free range and go with the WP topic of the day…. Then simply overwrite their topic in the header with one of our own choosing

        WP > “Why is the earth round?”
        Writer > “Why do some friendships slowly fade away?”

        If other writers see a homemade topic they like could use it, or come up with their own. Admittedly, a bit chaotic but it’d be interesting to see what people ponder.

        It’s definitely a good idea. I have tried to edit the header before and couldn’t for some weird reason. Maybe I’m just dumb like that 😄
        I have been known to just outright hijack a prompt and use it for what I wanted despite what the header said LOL

        For my latest blog, it came up with “What is something you’d like to try?” On my phone, I simply put the cursor in the header and typed my own title. In the laptop, click the three dies in the upper right, then select “HTML mode.” Among all the gibberish, you’ll see the title… carefully put your cursor in there, overwrite the title and then switch back to “visual mode.”

    Well, since we talked about 😜
    I think it comes in waves too at times, maybe ebbs and flows. You know my reasoning for certain things, but as a whole, maybe people are enjoying the holidays. I also think some fall on and off with it, other life commitments, maybe only some are as dedicated as the ones who have been here since…? lol
    Repetitive prompts don’t help. We’re trying not to do the whole “write just to write” thing I think as well. Could be a time for closing off and introspection for some. Perhaps the fails, glitches, and witches (b?) have turned some people off? Haha. Now I’m just rambling…..

      It’s very likely a byproduct of all the above as we discussed, yes.
      I have a few theories and they pretty much line up with yours.
      I mean, we approaching the end of the year too and people’s plates might be filling up a bit more too. 🤷‍♂️

    It has been dead, less views less likes and I know my contents consistent and I know everybody else’s is too. I don’t know. It’s like people don’t want to read anymore. I hope this trend changes soon. 😢

        It’s crazy I get numbers in the thousands and now I’m getting lucky to be higher than 800 in terms of views and likes and such and I write a lot and I have a lot of subscribers. I just don’t get it.

        I think a lot of us are down across the board. I know my numbers are. I’ve been sporadic here and there, but mostly good for a couple posts a day on average.
        It’s like a perfect storm hit all at once.

    Yeah, I’ve noticed over the past week or so that things have been pretty quiet out in WP land. 🤫Maybe it’s the back-to-school season kicking in 🚌, the holidays creeping closer 🎃📣🎉🥳🎅🏼🎄or folks already feeling frustrated by the chill in the air and retreating under electric blankets 🥶 for hibernation mode. 😂 Whatever it is, I hope everyone is doing okay.

    That said, I really hope WP picks up the pace soon, whether that’s with more engaging and much better prompts, fixing glitches, or just making better decisions to keep things fresh and fun for everyone. It’d be nice to see the community thriving again, especially as we head into these colder months when creativity and connection feel more important than ever.

      You might be right, my friend. There’s probably multiple factors at play here. With the advent of back to school also comes school sports, which is another thing I didn’t think of til I read your comment. I didn’t even consider school season.

      I am sure the glitches and trash aren’t helping either, though. It can definitely be frustrating!

        Yeah, I’m thinking those are the reasons. Hopefully, once everyone settles back into their routines, WP will pick up again. At least, that’s what I’m hoping.

    I’m told it was Thanksgiving in Canada yesterday so you’re right on the recovery. Other than that WP has been acting out. My Reader won’t update on my phone or my PC. And the Jetpack app, which I’m using now is a lil glitchy. Hopefully, they’re working on it.

        One of the reasons I have Jetpack is because I had to keep signing in from my email account to like or comment. It wasn’t always like that. I don’t know what happened. But I got the app and now I can’t see everyone’s posts. 😕

        From my experiences, it jumped out the box messed up. It’s crazy tho, we had like a solid month were it worked well then the app and the website weren’t compatible with wa h other

    The past dozen or so, maybe more, prompts said that I’ve already answered them. I have had an idea that we could form a group together and have a member of the group write their own “Daily Prompt” that we all can answer as we have been doing so far on the WordPress one. Just a suggestion

    I’ve noticed a slowdown in posts too.
    In the meantime WordPress is spamming some of my friends’ replies, even in the middle of a conversation between us, or deciding to unsubscribe some followers

      I have not had the WP spamming issue, but the unsubscribe one has plagued me off and on for months. Both others being unsubbed from my page, and me from others’ as well. Very frustrating.

    This time of year does seem to lag a bit I think, due to so many changes that come with the fall, i.e. school events, Halloween, upcoming holiday season. I think this brings with it a great amount of stress, and low energy for many. While my numbers have dropped a bit, the comments and likes I receive are still active with folks I know, like you… hugs

      Yes, I’m sure you’re right. It is a very hectic time of year. And I do still get the interaction with the “regulars”, which I greatly appreciate. I think I’m just more puzzled by the overall lack of activity the past week or so. Most likely a lull and it’ll be back, but it’s odd seeing it so sparse.

      To be fair, I started here in December ’23, which dovetailed right into Bloganuary, so I’ve not seen how average traffic is in the Fall/early Winter months.

    Well, I’m always sporadic with when I post or read stuff on WP (I suspect I have ADHD, so I’ve come to accept my sporadic nature as part of my life), but one of the additional reasons why I haven’t been on is that we just had Canadian Thanksgiving.

      Yes, there were three holidays that I know of. We had one here, Canadian Thanksgiving, and Durgapuja in India. I’m sure that attributed to the lack of traffic at least somewhat.

    First, I love the gorilla, so I’ll be sending comments and also love the images you post. I do not keep track of stats because they are deceiving sometimes, and I write for my own entertainment. If I get positive feedback, I love it, but I write for myself. After years of following word prompts, I’m tired of them and the WP questions are “huh?” types I don’t waste my time on. I have enjoyed your images and I like poem or story prompts, but usually the single word ones I skip. WP has always changed things for years. Just when you get used to one thing, it disappears and some new pita shows up. 😂. Keep blogging Kevin, we all enjoy your posts!

      Oh, I’m not going anywhere, and really, I am more just curious about the overall lack of posts all over WP as of late. I know some of us are still pretty regular, but it seems the overall volume and traffic is down everywhere. I’m not so much concerned about my stats per se, as I am using it as a barometer of activity in general. It just seems the last few days, my reader has hardly budged. Not a lot of new content popping up.
      And I thank you very much, because it is always great to know you, and many others, are always around 😊😊

    I haven’t heard of a strike. All I know is that there’s a huge annoying bug going on with excerpts, so whole posts are being spoiled into emails, even though you’ve set it to just show excerpts. It might explain why stats have been so low for so many people lately.

    My feed is as busy as usual in the reader, so no change for me at all. Just low stats… 🙄

    Several of the people I follow have said they’re just exhausted right now, myself included. I don’t know if it’s just the season… not all of them are in our part of the world… but it seems to be an epidemic!

      I don’t know that it will ever fully go away, but I think they will become, or remain, a niche form of social media. There will always be folks who want to write something longer or more substantial than a 140 character limit can accommodate. I think those of us still hanging around are likely here for the community itself more than anything.
