All Kinds Of Stuff (And Maybe Some Things)

Daily writing prompt
What have you been working on?

As I have already seen around a few times, we are all works in progress. We’re always working on some thing or another in our lives. Whether big or small, there’s always something.

Sleep:

As regular readers know, I have been having one hell of a time getting my sleep situation under control. I believe the biggest issue has been my constant revolving schedule the past two months or so. With luck, that issue will take care of itself with a more stable routine now. 🤞

Exercise:

I’m always working on this one. I’m almost always doing something, but I am always switching it up, trying different exercises, different modalities, etc. This one to me is mostly a labor of love, because I just plain enjoy it. Always looking to get better.

Making That Money:

Hell yeah. I’m always working on making more of that. Since returning to the workforce in April, I have worked for two different places. While I did like the first job, I was more than willing to entertain offers that might better benefit me. And, lo and behold, along one came. And I am still open to other opportunities. Whether they present themselves at my current location, or somewhere else, an opportunity to improve is one I’ll always be willing to at least discuss.

Writing:

Ah, writing…Here we are again, eh? 😄

While it would be fair to say that I am always trying to improve as a writer/blogger, I think in this instance it’s more my relationship with writing that I am working on.

I am trying to learn to write what I want and for the sheer enjoyment of it. I am also trying not to be so hyper critical of my own work, but that’s a bit more of an uphill climb. Overall, I am in a better spot with my mentality about writing, but it’s definitely not a done deal yet.

Anyhow, that’s really it. I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

  1. We are not always aware of what it is that wakes us up. If you think you might be joining the ranks of the targeted, put a live recorder by your bed at night. Then you’ll know.

    1. At worst, it could potentially eliminate some possibilities or give me some insights, even from a health perspective. Thank you.

  2. I really like how you phrased that you are working on your relationship with writing. That is very crucial for all of to remember and work on.

    1. Thank you. Yes, it really is the key more than anything. It’s not the act itself – it’s often what we associate with it. Joy? Misery? Hate? All of the above? Possibly, but some are best taken in small doses.

      1. …and those feelings can change over time – what started as a joy can become a chore or vice versa… take courage in the knowledge that you make a difference… so whatever your relationship with writing, the effort is worth it (for us!) Linda xx

      2. Thank you, Linda. I am very glad that people enjoy and get something out of it. It does help knowing it’s made a difference to some. 😊

  3. Happy to hear you feel like you’re in a better place mentally with your writing. ❤️ as much as I or anyone else can tell you over and over again how good your work is, you need to see it for yourself and feel comfortable with it. I think we’ve all been there that we can look at something we’ve written and think “is this really as good as it seems?”

Of course, I will always be honest with you too. 😊 As I hope you are with me about my stuff (I know you are, but I know you are always very careful about hurting others feelings, not just mine).

Fitness. So what’s our routine going to be? 🤪 I’ll do it with you. Trying to aim for 3-4x a week if I can. And now that I’m going back on nights, even more imperative.

Sleep. Ahh. Always a battle. That’s really the uphill climb. 🙏

    1. Slightly better. lol
I till have my moments with it more often than not. Now, I just try to see it as “it is what it is” and be somewhat satisfied.

5 -6 times per week with at least one 1000 rep session in there. 💪

The sleep, I am really curious to see if it improves once I adjust to these hours again.

      1. Any improvement is an improvement. 😊

Anddddd 5-6 times a week is a lot! 😆 🤣 don’t burn out. Plus, I would think with the working out, it should help with sleep, no?

Yes I’m curious too. More time off in between I hope. I hate going to work every single day. Lemme have my 3 and then be free! 🤪

      2. 5 to 6 is not a lot. There’s 7 days in a week. I left one open 😄
One would think it would help with sleep, but it seems not much does these days. 🤷‍♂️
It’s an improvement maybe, but an almost imperceptible one. lol

The being kind part is where I struggle. That’s gonna take some work lol

  7. Writing what we want and for the shear enjoyment of it – it’s absolutely important for us keep these things in mind as touchstones. Even though we’re surely write some other sorts of things, we need to keep coming back to our roots, and also write things just for us, disregarding any other criteria.

    1. It truly is, Nicole. If it becomes “work”, I find it’s often not worth it, nor is the end result very good.

      1. Exactly! That concern and my abysmal self-marketing skills (I have a friend in the indie-author community who gave me some advice for how to build up a social media presence, and I got as far as making the accounts and posting a couple initial posts and then… Nada… Totally not my thing, it turned out…) are why I’m not currently interested in trying to make writing a career.

      2. I’ve gone back and forth with that notion too, and I often find myself asking if the headache is worth it.

      3. I also don’t like the push to commercialize all of our hobbies, or turn everything into hustle culture, and I dislike it more and more the older I get.

      4. Same. Not everything needs to be a money making scheme. If I ever do decide to try and publish something it’ll be because I want to. Not to make a killing.
