OR: I Really Need To Start Exercising Again.

One of the sucky things about not having felt too great the past few weeks, along with the typical work and holiday nuttiness that so many of us know, is the fact that I wasn’t able to do much exercising.

I had a pretty good cadence going prior to getting ill, but it’s fallen off a bit since. I was working the entire time I was not well, and after 12 hours of that, there really wasn’t anything in the tank for much else.

Some days they just don’t make enough coffee…

Now that I have a fair chunk of time off, I am looking to reestablish my routine. I have posted about some of the dumb workout shit I’ve done before, but this time around, I’m going into it with a slightly different approach. Well, for now, at least. I am sure I will do another challenge at some point, but right now, I still feel like the batteries are not fully recharged after this recent bout.

My plan is to simply get back to what I love: Lifting heavy stuff and getting the workout done in as little time as possible. When I used to do heavy workouts of a 20 – 30 minute duration, I never felt overly taxed or tired.

The longer, crazier workouts are good to challenge yourself with from time to time, but as a regular thing, they have never been truly feasible.

Get it done and GTFO.

This isn’t my career. I am not an Olympic level athlete whose endeavors depend on being at the peak of human perfection. I’m not attending the NFL combine, and last I looked, the Highland Games weren’t calling me day and night to compete.

I have a full time, 12-hour job that requires some level of focus and more than a little patience. When you’re overtrained and overtired, both of those qualities tend to be compromised.

Not to mention that I really don’t want to get worn down and sick if I can help it. The reality is I am not a young buck anymore, and the needle can’t always run in the red like the good old days.

I started doing this yesterday with some slightly lighter weights just to get the blood flowing and the muscles used to the activity again. Luckily, I have never had too many major issues with soreness after working out, but I went into it on cruise control just the same.

With luck and a little bit of care, I can get back into the swing of things and work this routine into my current schedule with minimal impact. For me, short, consistent bursts have always yielded good results. If that’s changed for whatever reason, I’ll just adapt and figure it out.

That’s what we do after all, eh?

Farmer’s Walks = Good Mojo.

  1. The logo ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿ˜† yayyy!! ๐Ÿฅฐ I have to edit it to have the ยฉ๏ธ on it, but letโ€™s hope no one starts stealing gorilla images ๐Ÿ˜œ

I hear you on the working out. Iโ€™m in the same boat. Gotta get that ass movin! Also, I always find the shorter workouts are the best. If I can pump it out to 30-45 mins MAX, Iโ€™m usually pretty good.

Just donโ€™t overdo it. No 1000 rep workouts please ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿคช the stamina is highly impressive tho! โค๏ธ

Iโ€™m still not buying the โ€œnot feeling soreโ€ tho on most days ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Don’t put that out there, please lol

I think the 1,000 rep workouts are good to do from time to time to shock the system.
I don’t really get sore, but remember, I’ve been doing physical labor most of my life which is probably a factor.
If I have an issue it’s usually aching in the joints, but that’s just age and not much that can be done about that ๐Ÿ˜„

  6. Impressive! These images are amazing!

My two older grandkids (15 & 13) are very involved in athletics. Mckenna is a competitive swimmer and very into fencing while Lucan does JV soccer and track & field. They both get up at 5:30 to lift weights before school. I have no idea where there love of athletics comes from. It sure isn’t me! The most athletic I get is watching the Giants lose every week! ๐Ÿˆ

    1. That’s great for them!
I was never into organized sports when I was younger. Too much of a solitary sort for that. I think that’s why I gravitated to lifting weights. I don’t need to be around other people to do it. ๐Ÿ˜„
If it makes you feel any better, I have been watching the Patriots do similar the past few seasons LOL!

      1. No, it doesn’t really help. With the exception of the Bills, who are way too far north for us to root for, NY has really awful teams in every sport. And the players are getting mega bucks! SMH!

      2. It’s not much better around here nowadays with the exception of the Celtics. ๐Ÿ˜„
And clearly, the NY Jets have learned that Aaron Rodgers was not the answer either.

  8. When we work out all the time and then stop for whatever reason, we miss those endorphins and don’t like the sluggish feeling that quickly comes over us.

    1. I think that, compounded with not having been well, makes that feeling even more prevalent. The energy drain from that is still impacting me a bit.

Youโ€™re starting ahead of January! Iโ€™m getting back to exercising too, we feel better. Weight lifting relieves stress tooโ€ฆ My daughter always has funny stories from people she encounters at the gym.

    1. I’m just trying to pick back up where I left off a few weeks back. Feeling lousy really took it out of me.
I don’t go to the gym. I do it at home. The only gym I ever used was the one at my old workplace. I prefer to avoid people when possible ๐Ÿ˜„

  15. When I lived in Michigan, I worked out six days a week plus cleaning the house and shoveling my driveway which was a workout in itself. At work, now, I do lifting and taking the stairs.
