Bloganuary writing prompt
What do you complain about the most?

More accurately, “No to the new comments dashboard.” 😄

Still not digging it…

Man, I don’t know. When I recently came back after a couple days away and saw the new comments dash layout, to say I was a bit frustrated would be a huge understatement.

First, it just looks like a huge wall of text and not all that easy to follow, in my opinion. Even with the couple filtering options available, it still just looks like a ton of words mashed together.

Second, I can’t drop a like on a comment from the dashboard like we could before. Unless I am just plain not seeing it? If it’s there, I ain’t bumped into it yet. 😄

Whaddaya mean there’s no “like” button?

Finally, I am not sure that it’s consistent in notifying users that their comment was replied to. I suspect that to be the case, as Laura recently told me she did not receive notifications that I had replied to some of her comments.

It’s all a bit confusing, to say the least. It makes me wonder how many folks I have replied to and they possibly have no idea that I even did.

I think the part that irks me the most is that this was yet another “surprise” that I truly don’t think was needed. I’d much prefer the “random unsubscribe” issue, or the “likes not sticking” thing be fixed.

But, hey, I guess just like all the other “surprises” I’ve seen over the last year, we’ll just learn to deal with it. 🤷‍♂️

P.S.

If y’all bored, here’s last year’s reply to this prompt.

  1. Yes!!! 🙌 They’ve made so many changes! I don’t like it! I have to reply via the notifications bar now, and now, for some reason, I can’t hit the back button to go back to the reader page 🙄. Glad they’ve made more bugs for us to complain about. LOL!

    1. Yeah, i noticed the back button isn’t working last night too.
The bitch about the notifications bar is it only goes back so far. If you’re off for a few days, you’re kinda screwed!

      1. I keep clicking on comments like I can still reply to them that way. Ugh! 😆

I guess I’m going to say that’s the nice thing about not having many followers, and even less that actually interact with me. I could be gone for a week and only have a small handful of comments. LOL!

      2. The real bitch that makes it truly frustrating is if you login to find you got spam-liked. Good luck getting caught up from the sidebar then! 😄

      5. No… I don’t understand it. But I think we’ve been over this before… somehow people get banned from “liking” when they legitimately “like” something, and others can spam-like continuously… what gives!? 🤷‍♀️😆

      5. THAT part. I told Kevin all he has to do is wait a week or so and then they will come back out with some new BS that is even more infuriating lol 😆

I agree the new comment thing is so annoying. The other thing I’m trying to navigate is how to like people’s posts when I’m on my phone and they have an external site. It never lets me sad face anyway hopefully you find things to be happy about today too. 🙂

    1. I don’t usually use the phone for WP, so I am not sure on that one. I did notice that random pages seem to be having issues loading the like button even on browser.
Thanks, Sarah. I’m good. If this is the worst that happens today, I am winning! 😄

Haha, I’m with you on that.. 😅 It seems like every time WordPress tries to “upgrade” something, they end up making it worse. 😩 The new comment box with the block feature is a perfect example, it’s just more annoying to use. 🤦‍♂️

I think the Major definitely needs to take action and make some real changes here. 😂

Appreciate the post, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one feeling this way. 🙌 Have a great day, Brother.✌️

It feels like WordPress has been constantly downgrading. I haven’t noticed anything positive since I joined. Something needs to change or they are going to lose lots of people.

I use WordPress exclusively on phone and the jetpack app doesn’t seem to have undergone any recent changes, I can still like comments on the dashboard.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Me, too. I like to use jetpack because it’s more convenient for commenting and liking on posts. The app is easier to use than the WordPress site on engaging blogs.

  11. Being the technical wizard that I am (you know what I mean by that I hope), I hate it when things that were working perfectly well, suddenly get changed – for no apparent reason. It’s like when the move stuff around in the supermarket just to keep you guessing.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Amen to that.
What grinds me even more is when they have the nerve to tell us how much we’ll love it. Nice try, pal. 🙄

The supermarket is always trying to sell us more crap. Mine just did it recently yet again. They went to freaking town on the freezer section! 😡

  18. So if all you seasoned players are still hanging on to what WordPress hasn’t got? What are the other options? I’m a definite slow slow learner it took me 10 years of spitting ut money each year before about 6 months ago I said him tired of throwing money out each year and not getting anything back- so hear i am..and it seems you’re all going to bail out???
I tried substack, but it was a bit too much like pyramid selling – oh, you like my work you pay to read it.. They were all backslapping each other about the money that was rolling in just to read what they wrote .
I’m not into making money of anyone else..
    Just want a platform where I can I can share ‘n write….Right.

    1. Honestly, the only reason most of us are still here is the community itself. Our fellow bloggers and the relationships make the dealing with the hassles worth it.
Most bloggers around here are pretty supportive and there’s minimal drama.

That said, even that isn’t finite, and if they keep screwing with things, people will get fed up at some point once and for all and bail.

  20. Hey everyone – first, I want to apologize for the frustration this change has caused. I’m part of the team that worked on this update, and it’s clear from your comments that we could have handled the rollout much better.

I read through all your feedback. We are actively working to fix several issues you’ve identified:

    – Add the missing dashboard like button (https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/98592)
    – Fix the back button navigation (https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/98359)

I’ll report back when those are fixed.

We’ve been testing comment reply notifications and haven’t been able to repeat the missing notification yet. If you experience it again, could you respond here and I’ll see if we can figure out the specifics.

I know it’s frustrating to have to learn new systems, especially when you were comfortable with the old one. While we believe these changes will ultimately provide a better foundation for future improvements, we clearly need to do a better job of bringing you along on that journey. Keep the feedback coming, and thanks for your patience while we work through these issues.

    1. Thank you for responding to this 😊 it’s nice to be heard, I’ve had a few instances where someone has replied to me using the dashboard and I didn’t get a notification, that was a few days ago. Appreciate your detailed explanation as well.

    2. Hi Rob,
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. It is greatly appreciated. While I, and likely some others as well, do get quite frustrated, at the end of the day, it is because we really do care about this community and enjoy this platform.

I will be honest and say that I really did like the previous comment page, but I am certainly open to change, and I hope some of the features you are working on come to fruition.

While I speak with tongue in cheek fairly often, I am quite sincere when I say thank you for the comment. If we encounter the reply notification issue again, I will certainly let you know.

I hope you have a great weekend!
