Sleep!

Daily writing prompt
If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

Since today’s modern world seems to already think we don’t need sleep, I would take the extra time, do a total 180, and actually give sleeping a shot.

Just to see what it’s like and all that.

Solely for experimental purposes, I assure you.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It says if you didn’t need it.

But, I think even if I didn’t “need it” to survive, I would want to do it just to break up my day and put life’s insanity on pause for a little bit.

Don’t we already have to be “on” and “accessible” more than enough these days? Does anyone really want to be “on” 24/7? Personally, not I, thanks.

And you can say we don’t have to be accessible 24/7, but let’s face it – if people know you’re awake, they consider you available at their beck and call for the most part.

Checking work emails and chats from home? Nope, not these days, thanks. Been there, done that.

I could have taken this prompt literally and said I’d take the extra time to read, play guitar, and the 15 other things I always bitch I don’t have time to do.

But realistically, if people know you’re around, they’re gonna be looking for you, and likely a lot of them will be looking for you to do shit you just plain don’t wanna do.

More work, more drama, more bullshit.

Me? I’ll take a nap, thanks.

Nap time. Yes. I’ll take it!

Have a great one, folks, and hey…

Get some sleep. 😴😴😉😉

  1. Excellent answer, Kevin. We definitely need a break from the insanity of waking life.

  3. I have chronic fatigue, partially from years I couldn’t sleep when I was up with babies and children and a husband with dementia. I complain to the doctor about sleeping too much. He says, my body needs it, so relax and enjoy. Someday, this could be you, Kevin.

      1. That’s not enough, Kevin, and I know you know that. Our brains clean amyloid plaque while sleeping. I hope you can figure out how to get more sleep, my friend.

      2. I hope so too, Mary. If things work out the way I am hoping, it might change at some point in the future. Current state, I just try to rest when I can on days off.

Great read, Kevin. Now get some rest!

For person like me who has been suffering from insomnia from the day I was born , so I will never leave it . Have fun sleeping 🥱🥱🥱😴😴😴😴 kevin 😁. 1. I think the best thing about sleep is that while you are under it’s spell, you feel nothing. If only I could learn to do that during the waking hours. 🤷‍♂️

  9. I love the way sleep feels. That really good, calm feeling that washes over you as you (try to) forget about the day and just fall off into that blissful rest. So yeah, even if I didn’t need sleep, I would still sleep too 😆 great response, Kevin ❤️ and similar to what I’d think too 😘

Now, I’m ready for a nap 😴 but I have to get up and go to work 😭

    1. I like the fact that I can feel absolutely nothing and get away with it, however brief it might be. 😄

I think it’s the mental break more than the physical one that is sometimes of the most benefit.

      Thank you, m’lady. 😘😘

Hope you are resting good as I type this. 🙏

  10. Aarrrh..sleep..for me it comes as soon as I sit in a comfy lounge chair after a meal at night but if i get up and go and lie down on the bed it’s gone..out the windows??
I was reading all these comments between 2 -4 am…and I know it’s bad to have electronic media on whilst one is relaxing but i was just hoping I would find it boring and I’d drift off to sleep…not so..
These past 2 years, I’ve been suffering with an itch under my skin that’s keeping me active…so beside my non sleeping, other things are going on.. A good time to do some constructive writing or sketching. Hope sleep comes..

It would be weird if we could negotiate our sleep time, like PTO, either taking it all at once every year, or scattered weekends of nothing but sleep. 🙂

  14. I like the idea of a sleep bank where I can borrow some or put some back if I don’t need it .. My mobile has this sleep mode thing where the phone turns to a grey colour after a certain time in the evening…it feels like big Brother is watching when it says you’re 3 hours past your sleep pattern time..oh bother..
But if I don’t get enough hours, I’ll should be able to borrow them from when I overslept…

    1. A sleep bank sounds like an excellent idea. The ability to borrow some in and of itself would be a huge plus. I have a feeling a lot of us would not have much extra to put into savings though!

Haha, I love the angle you took on this! Honestly, I think I’d do the same, sometimes the best thing to do with extra time is just not be “on.” Taking a pause sounds like a solid plan.

Yes, I think we all need to step out of the ring for a moment here and there.
Going nonstop? I think that just sounds like a recipe for overload.
