Daily writing prompt
Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes, and where theyโ€™ve taken you.

First, a moment of silence, please.

I finally had to pull the trigger and retire my beloved Doc Martens.

Farewell, my friend. It was a good run.

Yes, I had to put them out to pasture a couple weeks back when I went outside at work and promptly felt the water seeping into my boot. It had been slightly ripped for some time, but I kept clinging on as long as I could.

Now, one would say “Just buy a new pair,” and I would love to, except these were from their industrial line and have been discontinued.

These days, I rock a pair of Timberlands. Great boots, but man, I miss my Docs. Ah, well. Life goes on.

As for where my boots took me, well, pretty much everywhere since that’s all I really wear. Don’t think I have had a pair of sneakers in over 20 years. They just don’t feel right on my feet anymore. Or, at least, I have not found a pair that does yet.

Okay, that’s about all I have for this prompt. ๐Ÿ˜„

In other news, I got my third certificate, and with a bit of luck and timing, I will have my fourth by the end of this week. Shooting for today, but if not, then Thursday should do the trick!

Still have another iron in the fire, but I am continuing to remain quiet on that one for the moment.

Got the cert. Did not get cool gold badge, though.

Did a bunch of stuff outside yesterday, and man, my hands are paying for it today. Between the wind, chipping away at 1 inch thick ice, and grabbing cold ass metal while doing stuff on my car, my hands have said enough for the moment.

Take that, foul ice minion!

I also did a bit of switching up of my dietary habits recently.

While I often profess my love for pizza and all things junk food, I do try to keep it mostly in moderation. Lately, I have not had the time nor ambition to eat as well as I normally would and my body is really beginning to feel it.

This week I have made a conscious effort to try and be a bit more moderate, and I can already feel a slight difference. My digestion is better and I don’t feel as weighed down.

Not pizza, but steak and thick cut bacon are epic win. And yes, I do eat vegetables too.

Other than that, it’s just another day at Gorilla HQ.

Wishing you all a great day!

We’ll see if I can knock the other one out before the end of the week. Depends what I walk into tonight ๐Ÿ˜„

Congrats on the certification. I feel your pain about not being able to replace pairs of shoes that have gone to a better place. Congrats on getting healthier too, that balance beast is tough ๐Ÿ™‚ have a great day

Yes, it sucks that I could not replace them like for like, but I guess if they weren’t selling or whatever, not much I can do lol
It is tough to balance out especially when your schedule is all over the place. The slightly extra effort is definitely needed.

The wind was brutal yesterday. We were out with our granddaughter and she damn near blew away. Try explaining that to her parents! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ณ

Yes, it was godawful, for sure. Definitely not a cool, comforting breeze!
And no, I don’t want to explain that one either! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

Yes, I am guessing the industrial line wasn’t a big seller for them. The fashion line is probably where they make their money. Oh, well ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜„
I like the Timberlands, and I am getting used to them, but it’s not quite the same.

Great job / win on the Certificates, congrats on those. Sorry to hear about your Doc Martens, I hate parting with nice warn in boots. Loved the image of Gorilla hitting ice – thatโ€™s EXACTLY how it feels outside right now. Have a good day!

Yeah, I pushed them way beyond their expiration date, so I really can’t complain. They owed me zero lol

  6. Kevin, do you lift weights in boots? And I HATE it when my favorite thing gets discontinued. Just had that happen the other day with my favorite jeans. I ended up finding some at goodwill, but wish I could just find what I want when I want it. Are there not 25 billion products out there? And they canโ€™t just keep the few that you and I like??

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hi Susan, my usual outfit for lifting is jeans, t shirt and boots yes. It’s just what I have always done lol
They always discontinue stuff I like! TV shows, food items, clothing items. If I like it, there’s a fair chance it won’t be around long! ๐Ÿ˜„

    1. I would have to whether I wanted to or not. I have to wear them at work, so I pretty much just roll with it
Plus, most boots are cheaper than sneakers these days ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

      1. All three styles of Martin’s I’ve owned took a lot of pain to break them in right. I live in Alaska so boots are not an option.

      2. The industrial line were actually pretty comfy from the get go. Their regular ones I have heard are a nightmare to get broken in yeah. I went with the industrial because I needed the steel toes and anti-slip traction for work.

  9. Elton John playing ‘Funeral For A Friend’ popped into mind when you had to say good-bye to the Doc’s. Myself I prefer to go barefootin’ thru life.

Congrats on getting the certificates completed and hanging on the wall. Do I see advancement in the near future?

I didn’t have the news on this morning so I missed the “Breaking News” section. Did someone just drop the ‘End of the World Bomb’? Myself I love those T-bones as much as pizza bones but am amazed to hear those words “cutting back on pizza” come forth from you!!

Good luck with your conscious diet and since your mixing it up, enjoy the slice of that Shoe Fly Pi with “Dream Whip”!.

    1. That is a very apt song indeed! I kept them way, way longer than I should have.
Truthfully, I still haven’t thrown them away yet ๐Ÿ˜„

Thank you, brother! One of them I had to take for work, and the others were of my own initiative. Not sure about advancement, but “change” could be a key operative word.
That, and some of it will look good on the resume for whatever comes up!

I do have to cut back “a bit” just to keep things in check. It was getting to the point that pizza and burgers were becoming the default a little too regularly. I need to get back to a more moderate approach. And the waistband on my jeans confirms it! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

  13. Sorry about your shoes, it sucks so much when you lose a pair that were perfect for you. And sorry about your digestive issues, that happens when we aren’t able to take care of what we eat. Ginger is really good for getting your digestive system back on track. Try adding a little to your meals or have a bit before your meal.

I have been taking probiotics, etc. Perhaps I’ll add some ginger to the mix as well!

  14. First I also would like to congratulate you regarding the certificates.

Next my favourite shoes would be either my high heeled thongs or my country styled boots, both I had way back when I was much younger, the boots I would wear all the time in winter, the thongs I wore the rest of the year, well both were only worn when I went out as I have never worn shoes while at home.

  18. RIP your docs, Kevin. The loss of comfy boots is a biggie. Congrats on the certificates and the diet change. I’m proud of you!

Diet aside, you inspire me to continue working out. I missed a stair going out the door to the garage yesterday, rammed my head into the car, and twisted my wrist and ankle. Today I hurt from head to toe, and now my debate is whether or not to work out at the pool. Will it make me feel better or worse? Love to you, my friend.
