They Are All Meaningful

Daily writing prompt
What was the best compliment you’ve received?

I can’t think of any one that stands out. They’re all nice!

I think it’s tough to narrow it down to just one compliment.

Personally, I appreciate them all. Whether it be for my writing, my photos, images, a work accomplishment, or about my parenting abilities, and so on.

I don’t always take compliments that well, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them all the same. The fact that I have difficulty accepting them is just my hangup. πŸ˜„

And, like a lot of folks, even though they are appreciated, I also tend to remember the negative remarks more than the positive ones. Those ones tend to sting and leave a bigger mark for a lot of us, I believe.

Yes, I dwell on them too.

It really does take a conscious effort to accept a compliment, and to also see our own worth sometimes. It’s tough to accept kind words when you tend to not believe in yourself or your own abilities.

A lot of us default to disbelief when someone says something nice about us. Whether it’s due to nature, nurture or a bit of both, the mind often seems to enjoy drifting into the dark.

Walking that road once again.

It’s a pattern just like a lot of things in life. The trick is trying to figure out how to break that pattern and start a new, healthier one.

Like I said, it takes effort. Sometimes a lot of it.

We all have the capability to muster that effort. I think the question then becomes “What’s it worth to you?”

Is it worth the effort to appreciate ourselves?

Is it worth the effort to be able to enjoy the nice things folks tell you about yourself?

Is it worth it to be even just a bit happier?

I believe, ultimately, that yes, it is worth it.

I think it’s absolutely worth it to shed the self-conscious feelings, the internal embarrassment and the lack of faith in self even if it is to feel just a tiny bit better.

Kind of like pennies in a jar. Little by little they add up until you have a small fortune on your hands.

Small investment, big gains.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day. Take a moment to appreciate yourself. You deserve it! 🀘😎🀘

  1. You make a good point there! I thought of something similar actually, because you’re right about what you think of this ordeal with compliments. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks, my friend. I know a lot of people go through similar feelings. It’s not all that easy to hear good stuff about ourselves, as funny as that might seem.

It is way easier to listen to our own negative self talk or believe bad things people say about us. Knowing our strengths and the things that are worthy of being appreciated and appreciate them in ourselves as well. The most important things we can do in healing ourselves. I hope you have a great day too.

    1. It is very easy, yes. I think it’s just a part of human nature since the majority seem to have dealt with it to one degree or another.

I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s so easy to get caught up in the negative, and harder to truly accept compliments or acknowledge our worth. It’s like we’re constantly battling our own doubts. But you’re right, small steps, little by little, can make a big difference. It’s all about putting in the effort, even when it feels hard. And yeah, it’s worth it. Definitely worth it.

    1. It is a very tough thing to do for sure, my brother. Most of us will happily give praise to others, yet judge ourselves in extremely harsh fashion.
Little by little all we can do it try to get a bit better. Every step is progress πŸ’ͺ

    1. Thank you, Sara. I think a lot of folks can. Especially creative ones. I think we judge our work harshly, and that can spill over to our judgements of ourselves as well.

      1. Yes, I think you are correct – creative ones spend a lot of time (self) analysing, judging, evaluating etc… more often than not in a negative way. The repercussions of that can gain a snowball effect!

It is a dangerous line to walk, especially if one is predisposed to that kind of behavior.

  10. Many of us find it hard to accept compliments but we can learn to smile and say thank you when we receive one. Negative remarks hang around for years even decades and are hard to forget they will pop up on our memory from time to time making life difficult.
