Daily writing prompt
How many times have you been asked what your favorite season is?

Truthfully, I honestly can’t even recall how many times the “favorite season”, or some variation of this prompt has come up. In the past year, I swear I have seen it at least 10 times. ๐Ÿ˜„

Anyhow…

Amongst all the times I’ve been asked, my answer really has not changed. I would still give the nod to Autumn, with Winter as my second place pick.

Springtime is rough on me because of pollen and allergies, and Summer heat and humidity make my job tougher, because I work in fairly hot environments. Fall and Winter bring welcome relief for this simian.

Fall for me, thanks.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, onto other stuff.

Today marks my penultimate day on the current job. While I am looking forward to the future, it is with a slight mix of emotions.

As I have written previously, there are a lot of things that I will not miss one bit.

More than anything, as is usually the case, it’s some of the people I will miss the most.

Rapidly coming to a close.

While there are some monumental pains in the ass there, there’s a fair number of good folks too. Unsurprisingly, the majority are not in upper management. ๐Ÿ˜„

That being said, I am grateful for the time I had there, and I wish everyone there the best. I hope at some point, things improve and it is far less frustrating than the current situation.

I also know that no job is totally peaches and cream, so I go into my new one optimistic, but also with a dose of realism. It is called “work” and not “fun”, after all. And sure as the sun will rise, there will be annoying days.

At this point, I am just hoping for a slightly fairer balance.

Just a bit. Not asking for much.

I think if you can go into work and the ratio of good to bad days is slightly tolerable, you’re far ahead of the curve these days. The bigger piece is not going in daily with an absolute sense of dread. Once you hit that point, it’s essentially game over.

I had hit that point. Hence the reason I am moving on.

I have felt like a bit of a nomad the past year, and hopefully this is it for at least a little while. I’d like to pitch my tent for what feels like more than a minute.

Yeah, camping out for a few would be kinda cool.

While I am totally okay with the concept of moving on in the name of improvement, I would like to at least get a solid year in somewhere if at all possible. It’s been more than a minute for that.

Anyhow, the next few days/weeks should be interesting.

Off into the big, wide world I go again! ๐Ÿ˜„

Have a great one, people.

Stay safe and healthy, and…

Frosty. As always.

  1. They have no new ideas ๐Ÿ˜‚ so they keep asking the same thing again and again.
I love the fall and winter seasons especially with the fall festival season that comes along.
    Have a great day, Kevin!

Your post just gave me an inspiration for a way to tweak the prompt in a way thatโ€™s not overly challenging ๐Ÿ™‚ Iโ€™ve been in jobs were the only thing that made it worth doing for the people, but I had to move on in order to keep myself sane. Iโ€™m glad you found something that hopefully will give your life a better balance. Good luck

Thank you, Sarah. Hoping this one works out, at least for a bit.
Yes, I will miss the folks, but onward and upward is the mode now. ๐Ÿ’ช

  4. Good luck and good fortune on your new endeavor. I find that the only difference between a good day and a bad day is being able to look in the mirror and ask yourself if you did your best. When the answer is “No” more than “Yes” it’s time to move on.
Survive the summer, fall is on its way.

    1. That’s what I tell people all the time, ironically. If you did you best, legit did your best, then walk out with your head held high and let no one tell you otherwise. Not always that easy, but worth the shot at least.
Thank you much! I see you are a Fall creature too, so likewise – hang in there!

  9. Your words feel like a conversation with a close friend โ€” real, reflective, and refreshingly relatable! ๐Ÿ‚
I smiled at your seasonal ranking (Autumn is my forever favorite too!) but also deeply felt the honest emotions behind leaving a job. Itโ€™s never easy, especially when youโ€™re walking away from good people (and running from poor management ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Wishing you nothing but growth, good vibes, and fewer annoying days at your new job. You deserve that balance. ๐ŸŒŸ

  12. Iโ€™m a Fall/Winter person. Spring=pollen and sinus season. Summer = Iโ€™ve survived heat poisoning in the Army. No joke a week in the infirmary. So, I still canโ€™t stay out in the sun and heat to long.

  15. I hope things work out better for you. I understand some of the struggles with a work place. Because I struggle with anxiety, finding a job where people do not overwhelm is tough. My last job I loved but because of financial matters and the passing of my dad we had to move closer to family. So, now I have to start over again and I am sort of scared. Now that my van is fixed, I am going to have to look for a new job. The same company has a store about 40 minutes away from me and my old boss said she would call them with good recommendations but I’m still nervous about it. Anyways, good luck with your new start Kevin.

Best of luck to you, and be glad that you have someone willing to give a recommendation. That speaks volumes about how good you are!
