Vacation? WTH Is That?

Daily writing prompt
Describe your most memorable vacation.

It’s Drink O’Clock somewhere…

What is this “vacation” thing ye speak of? 😄

For multiple reasons, I have not taken an actual “vacation” in probably 20 or 30 years at least. Truthfully, I can’t even remember the last time I took one. Might have been when I was a kid and went because the family did.

Also, I am not much of a “travel” guy. I know a lot of people love it, but it’s just never been too high on my list.

I’d love to see different places and such, but, well…life and all that. For me, it has a funny habit of getting in the way. A lot.

Now, lest ye think I don’t ever go anywhere, I do sometimes take day trips and go off and adventure a bit.

I will often take rides in Autumn with my daughter and we will go to some of the lakes, forests, etc. in the surrounding area.

Indeed, this is the life.

One nice thing about where I live is that the Fall colors can be quite lovely, and the surrounding towns are normally quiet and peaceful.

If you have never sat by the side of a lake and just listened to the water and the gentle breeze, I highly recommend it. Nothing clears the head and heart better.

At some point, I may well do some traveling, but first, I need to stay at a job long enough to accrue some real vacation time. Three jobs in a year is not the easiest way to do that. 😄

Mind you, I’m not bitching about it. It is what it is, and honestly, if I had to jump to another job next week for my health and sanity, I would do it in a heartbeat. The long term gain far outweighs any short term satisfaction, because folks, that shit fades real fast.

Honeymoons don’t last forever, after all, do they?

When it’s time to go, it’s freakin’ time to go.

Fortunately, I am easily amused, and have no problem just hanging out and chilling. Also, if you’ve never done it, a little “micro-vacation” in your own backyard can be quite interesting.

Lately, I have roamed the yard and neighborhood and gotten some pretty nice photos. That can be an enjoyable experience in and of itself.

Anyhow, on that note, I wish you all a great Saturday!

Stay cool, stay calm, collected, and…

Frosty. 😉

  2. No vacation in 20-30 years, that is a bit tough. However, micro-vacations in your backyard can be interesting and relaxing too, especially if you live in a beautiful area.

  3. Fall is so lovely, it’s one thing I really miss now that I’m back in Kenya. Micro-vacation’s are fun, I’ve done one or two of those recently. I want to try a staycation too.

  4. Yes, stay-cations can be the most stress-free vacations. I’m a huge fan of them.

  5. Nothing wrong with stay cations Kevin.
If you are lucky enough to stay in a nice area and the weather is decent then why not.
Travel is very very expensive and not everyone has the resources..
Look forward to seeing more of your awesome photographs my friend.

  6. I recently spent a couple of months at a remote campground, and got to watch families on vacation come and go. The more elaborate their plans and their rigs, the less of a good time they seemed to be having. I think you’ve got a good key, there ~ slipping in the little vacations where they fit. 👌

  9. Is it sad that I got too excited about the gorilla pool picture? LOL.
Hopefully you’ll be able to (and want to) take a vacation somewhere a bit special one day…
I thought we did have really such a nice time going to the lake you showed me too 😊

Well said. I love that the Bear loves to travel and I come along, but vacations really can be wherever you take them

Was talking with a friend yesterday and said that for the first time in as long as I can remember, there’s nowhere I want to go. Not that I’d say no to an adventure, but I can see exploring where I am for the next. 30 years if I’m given that long. 🙂

  15. Where I’m originally from, we had beautiful Autumn’s. I do miss those. And as a kid, we traveled some in our state and a couple surrounding states each summer. We went camping mostly. But as an adult, I prefer to stay home or close to home too.

  16. Yes. Microvacation or whatever vacation you want to call it in your own backyard is good. Or even just the next town.
I have not been on holiday for some time either. Although not as long as you. And I have not been on holiday away every year either like some do, with not having the money to. But luckily I’ve not been too bothered by that either.
But when I really needed a holiday one time, I created a ‘staycation’ as I heard it called at the time and I enjoyed it. I then once did a staycation in the next town.

I feel like a holiday this year. But I can’t arrange anything with knowing I have my cochlear implant operation at some point. But I have wondered whether to slap a couple of days off in, so that they fall near the weekend and book a last minute couple of nights in a hotel or B&B just for my weekend away in my favourite next area to where I live.

    1. It might be a nice idea to do just that, Liz. sounds like you could use a day or two to relax and get away from it all for a moment. I say if the opportunity is there, why the heck not?

  17. Micro vacations are awesome. When my wife and son are out of town, it’s great to just chill around the house, reading, watching movies, napping, you name it. I’ve even done a couple where I stayed at a nearby hotel for a day to do some light reading and journaling. These are great for the soul.

    1. That’s an awesome idea, Edward. Take a couple days and get out of the house completely, even if it is only up the road. Love that notion! 👍👍

      1. Exactly! Sometimes it’s good to get out of the house, leave the daily routine behind, and step into a new space in order to take a mental break for a day or two.

      2. Makes sense 100%. A little getaway can do absolute wonders.
I spent about 4 hours outdoors in the yard today. Just trying to exercise and enjoy the peace.
