Alive And (Kinda) Kicking

114 in the shade, as it were.

Greetings, fellow word(press)smiths!

I hope everyone is doing well and having a good week thus far.

I had to unexpectedly drop off the radar because it’s been one hell of a week ’round here.

First, we got walloped with another blast of high heat this week. Average temperature was 93 with a feels like of 101 and obscene humidity. In the shop, the average temp was 110 – 114 degrees. No bueno!

“Sweating bullets” doesn’t even begin to cover it. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿฅต

I also had a bit of a run-in with a errant fork truck that did not really end in my favor. Spoiler: The fork truck won.

Anyone get the number of that truck?

Fortunately, I personally did not get hit, but my cart got clipped while a driver was backing up to turn around and it gave my neck a bit of a jolt. Mostly just sore more than anything. I’m still feeling it, but it could have been much worse.

Total freak accident kinda thing. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured and all’s well that ends well.

I wanted to get a Showcase post up for all the NTT entries, I just have not been able to yet. I’ve been so beat down when I get home that I just plain don’t have the juice at the moment.

I am gonna try to get one compiled this weekend. If y’all have any more posts you want to add to the tally, there’s still time.

There’s also some entries I have yet to get to read, so I will be around ASAP.

I’ll get there. I promise!

Anyhow, I just wanted to say hello real quick and let y’all know I was thinking of ya. Hang in there, and hopefully I can catch up a bit over the weekend!

Stay Frosty, kids!

(Especially if you’re dealing with the heat too!)

ยฉ 2025, KHR

  2. I am so sorry about all that, especially the fork lift. It is too hot where you are. 93/101 is pretty hot, even for Texas where I live. It was 96/106 today but I am not inside a building without air conditioning.

  7. A gorilla tangling with a big CAT? Stay out of harms way brother. Glad your ok but my question is, how much damage did you do to the fork truck? Be safe in the heat and drink mucho water. Sadly for me but ecstatic for you is that winter is just around the corner. Happy weekend Kevin.

    1. Not as much damage as I did to the driver. I think they found most of his limbs, finally. ๐Ÿ˜„
      Nah, just kidding. lol
It was a totally freak thing where he thought he had more room than he did.
Thanks, brother. Thankfully, today we got a bit of a break. It was way less humid and the temps went down some.

  8. Glad to hear from you again. I know freak accidents are no fun. I’m surviving from one as well, but I’ll keep the details to myself, but I’m all good. Or as good as I can be during the circumstances.

  10. Wowโ€”Iโ€™m so grateful youโ€™re okay after something so terrifying. Fork truck accidents are no joke, and itโ€™s a miracle youโ€™re here to tell the story. I absolutely love how youโ€™ve used your pictures to bring it all to life. Theyโ€™re powerful and deeply moving. Iโ€™m looking forward to reading more and following along as you continue to share your journey. Sending healing and strength your way!

  11. If you work in the heat, it has been brutal. The summer’s gone by quickly and the weather has been all over the place. I hope you are enjoying as beautiful a day near you, Kevin, as it is here near Chicago. It’s a perfect summer day. I’ve been able to work on the patio, and I love it. Hugs to you. Please tell Laure that I miss her.

  12. Stinking hot days drain our energy, and fork lifts can be dangerous if you piss it off or the person controlling it but sometimes there are just freak accidents or that’s what they would have you believe, seriously good to hear from you.

And I agree the heat is awful. Weโ€™re under a severe heat advisory for next week with temperatures in triple digits and the heat index will be worse.
