This week’s edition of Triple S is a bittersweet one, to put it mildly.
To say that Ozzy Osbourne inspired and entertained millions would be a massive understatement, and to capture his impact in a mere six songs is impossible. To that end, I will be putting up six of my favorites and apologies in advance, because I could never hit on everyone’s favorite.
Ozzy was one of the best damned frontmen to ever do it. The consummate showman.
He was a cultural icon.
He was a musical legend.
And that legend will live on through his music.
I can still remember how proudly I displayed the Ozzy and Randy Tribute album cover on the back of my denim jacket in the 80s.
I remember worshiping at the guitar altar of Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee and Zakk Wylde. Three incredible guitarists (amongst many) whom Ozzy introduced to the world.
And I remember getting a bit misty-eyed watching Ozzy’s final performance in Birmingham a couple weeks ago, knowing that we were witnessing the end of an era.
If only we truly knew.
There’s a part of me that wonders if Ozzy knew deep down that this was it, and he put everything he had into that final performance. His one last chance to say “goodbye” and “I love you” to his legions of devoted fans and supporters.
Whatever he was thinking, I am glad he got the chance to do it on his terms, in his own way.
Just like he always did.
Rest In Peace, Ozzy.
Thank you for the music, the memories and the inspiration.
I hope you and Randy are having a few laughs and one hell of a jam session.
Heaven just got a little bit louder.
