Failure = Experience

Daily writing prompt
How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

Well, I could use my current circumstance as an example. You work a long time somewhere, you do pretty good for yourself, and then suddenly, before you know it, things go sideways, mistakes are made, and you’re no longer working.

You roll it all around in your head. The could’ve, the should’ve, the would’ve. You get depressed, you get angry, you get depressed again.

You get mad at yourself, the world and everything in between. Then you get depressed again.

You wrestle with a lot of emotions, because no one likes to feel like a failure. It sucks and that’s all there is to that. It’s a lot like the stages of grief. You have to run through them all to come out the other side.

But, eventually, you do come out the other side. And you see it’s not so bad. You start to see the blessings around you. You have time to enjoy the things you neglected, and you even get to enjoy some new things too.

You start to see that a mistake is exactly that. A mistake. we’ve all made them. It’s what we learn from them that counts. It’s not a failure, it’s a lesson. It’s experience. You now know just a little bit better what to, and what not to do.

Ultimately, you realize that what you’ve been gifted is a chance for a new beginning. At last.

    1. A feeling I think we can all relate to, little sister. I know of no one who’s not been there at least a little bit.

Like the way I sneaked that in there? 😄

  2. I love this post so much, Kevin! The depression, the angst, the questioning “should I/shouldn’t I?” the swinging back and forth…then the breakthrough. The acceptance that yes, it was a mistake but that everyone makes them…then the hopefulness at the end. SO GOOD! Cheering you on from where I am, you’re such an inspiration xx

  3. Amen.

One moment doesn’t define who we are. We’re all human, but sometimes allowing ourselves some grace is the most difficult thing to do. Sounds like you’ve overcome the inner turmoil, healing and ready to bounce back. Sending you good vibes, my friend.

    1. Indeed we do not always allow ourselves much grace at all.

      5. You said almost dashing, so my quip was Dash, without the -ing (almost dashing). But yours is better anyway. Lol

    Let us put this way
Mistakes are the tuition we pay for success.
Learn the lessons well, for they are the building blocks of wisdom.

  9. Well said. I like this part; it’s so true: “But, eventually, you do come out the other side. And you see it’s not so bad. You start to see the blessings around you. You have time to enjoy the things you neglected, and you even get to enjoy some new things too.” Sometimes, things happen for a reason, and we just need to be aware of what else is out there for us.
