Headcount.
Tiresome.
Annoying.
Relentless.
“No appreciation,” the gorilla thought to himself as he stared at the clock on the wall. “8:30. It’s only 8 freaking 30,” he said aloud in disgust.
He had only been there two hours. It felt more like ten.
9:00 Teams meeting to discuss headcount. Again.
8:40 AM He walked down the hall to get a soda.
8:45 AM. He stared at the meeting reminder that had popped up on his screen.
8:50 AM. He stared at the ice cold Coke on the corner of his desk, and then back at the screen.
“Not today, I think,” he said quietly.
Click. Decline.
8:55 AM. Car keys in hand.
8:59 AM. Pulling out of the parking lot.
9:21 AM. A park, a Coke, a smile, and a stone wall.
9:22 AM. Phone buzzing.
Dismiss.
9:22:30 AM. Peace of mind.
Best soda he ever had.
