I learned…

Daily writing prompt
Describe something you learned in high school.

I learned that I really didn’t like school all that much.

I learned that I couldn’t wait to get out.

I learned that anything in a miniskirt can be dangerous.

I learned that the woods are a great place to have a keg party.

I learned that I really, really loved Van Halen and 80s rock in general.

As you probably gathered by now, no, I did not care for school that much. I was easily bored, and overall, I could not wait to just graduate and be done with it.

With age, comes a tiny bit of wisdom, and I did return to school for a bit this past winter for some courses.

Then I learned…

School really isn’t as terrible now that I am older and a bit more patient.

Keg beer kind of sucks, and bourbon is better. The woods are still cool though.

Anything in a miniskirt is still dangerous.

I still really, really love Van Halen and 80s rock.

Class dismissed!

  2. Well, I’ve got to hand it to you, your journey from school skeptic to seasoned bourbon connoisseur is quite the evolution! And hey, who knew the woods could hold so many memories, both good and, uh, cautionary? Rock on with that Van Halen love โ€“ some things just never change, right? Here’s to your ongoing adventures and the lessons they bring!

Tastes evolve too, whether it’s in music or beverages.

Hey, who doesn’t love a little danger? ๐Ÿ˜…
I was a terrible student in high school and my first two (or three, I don’t remember) attempts at college. In high school, it was because I had crippling ADHD and my parents wouldn’t let me take medication even though the brief period I tried it my grades skyrocketed. In college it was because by then I had already started self-medicating with 100 beers a day. ๐Ÿ˜
Unsurprisingly when I went back to college 6 years ago with sobriety and an Adderall prescription, I graduated with full honors. ๐ŸคทNow I hate to hear of people who think they’re not good enough for school because it’s likely nothing to do with their intelligence or effort.

    1. That’s great news that you were able to go back and kick ass!
In my situation it was just a case of really not wanting to be in a classic setting anymore for a long long time. I loathed school the last couple years

By the way, Kevin. Anything in tight-fitting pants is also dangerous.

Do enjoy the rest of your day, my friend.
