Stepped upon and cast aside
No one even tries to hide

The image evokes a great deal of emotion and sadness, the words with it fit perfectly, now if only the people in the world paid attention to the suffering more intently than just turning the other cheek.
My daughter, when she was younger, once told me that “old people” were gross. I said, someday I’ll be old, will I be gross too? She replied, no mom, because you’re my mom. So I told her, all those “old people” out there are someone’s mom or dad too. She looked at me with such shock on her face. Like the thought had never occurred to her. The newer generations are just so cold and thoughtless. It scares me sometimes.
I don’t think that thought occurs to a lot of people unfortunately.
When I was younger I was always interested in “older people” because they had amazing stories and lessons, having grown up in the Depression, WW1 and WW2. I was also brought up to respect my elders, which I think many are not these days.
