Power Visions (The Green Edition)

SOMETIMES WE MUST DIG DEEP TO FIND OUR POWER.

I am writing this post following yet another night of minimal sleep. Lately, I have been having issues with proper rest, and quite frankly, it’s not been getting better.

As we all know, poor sleep can affect your mood, your judgement, your physical state…

In short, everything.

Shortly before drafting this, I was sitting on my bed and was hit with a massive wave of depression. Multiple frustrations hit me all at once, and I felt extremely low. Like, low enough to play handball off a curb low.

I kept it to myself and just stewed in it for a few minutes, slipping lower and lower.

Finally, I said fuck it. I grabbed my phone, pulled up some music, and grabbed my 35 lb. hammer. And I swung that bitch for all she was worth. I was hurting, I was tired, I was angry. And every ounce of that was focused into the unforgiving iron head of that fucking hammer.

This post is sponsored by The State of Controlled Anger.

Am I still tired? Yeah, you bet your ass I am. Do I feel better? Mentally, perhaps yes, because I let that depression flow through that hunk of iron. Do I still seek that ever elusive “balance”? Oh, yes. Very much so.

But, for a few brief minutes, I controlled that depression and that mood instead of it controlling me.

I dug deep, and for just a fraction of time, I found my power. My wish is that you find yours too. And if you dig and it’s not there? Dig deeper.

Stay safe and be good to yourselves, people.

  1. Sorry to hear you’re having such a difficult time, Kev. I do hope things improve quickly. Having said that, it seems to have in no way impacted your creative talents. The pics are amazing and once again, thank you you have perfected the balance of colour.

    1. Thanks KC. I’m a bit under the weather this morning, but hoping I’ll feel better later in today.
Sometimes the things just flow even when I’m not feeling 100%. I try to capture them when I can. Very glad you’re enjoying the images. I’ve been having fun with the color variations. It’s slightly different 😊

  4. Glad you told me about this. I know we can be up and down a lot, and I’m sure feeling a bit unwell doesn’t help either. I agree that whatever it is you go through, you have no shortage of creative flow and beautifully executed images as well as writing comes through, but then I worry that perhaps you operate like I do at a certain level of “chaos” and still put out quite good work because you’ve found a way to compartmentalize.

Have you thought of maybe getting a punching bag? It seems that a physical release is always a good way to let out that rage and frustration.

    I’m always here ❤️
I know we sometimes just have to go through “our things” though, as you see sometimes I keep some stuff to myself as well.

    1. Oh, I am sure to some degree, I slam the door shut and just write or create whatever. Since I really don’t know where it comes from, anything is possible really.
I actually have a punching bag in storage. Not a ton of room for it, so I stick with the weights. The hammers are good therapy. I have up to the 45 lb. one now.

I know you are. Thank you. But yeah, some things a boy just needs to deal with in his own way.

      1. I have a good idea where it comes from 😉

  6. I hope you figure out this inability to sleep, Kevin. I’m sure you are trying all the tricks. I’ve found that a magnesium cream helps me. I certainly notice if I don’t use it. https://earthley.com/products/good-night-lotion I know what you are going through, my friend. Hugs to you.

      1. No technology at least an hour before bed. I read a regular paper book. If I can’t sleep, I say the rosary. It’s calming, meditative. I know it isn’t for everyone. Maybe meditative music.

      2. I can definitely see how a prayerful practice would be a good ritual before bed, like meditation. I want to get back to just reading a regular paper book before bed. Thanks Mary 😊

Minimal sleep, maximum frustration—it’s a recipe for madness.
Grabbing that hammer and letting it all out? Smart!.
Who needs balance when you’ve got controlled chaos and iron therapy?
For a moment, you owned it, and that’s real power.
Keep digging, and if it’s not there, swing harder.
    Stay strong!

Wow, thank you for sharing this. I can relate on a deep level as someone who medically suffers from depression. I know how tough it can be, and I admire your honesty in navigating those feelings. Sometimes, the only thing we can do is find a way to fight back, just like you did. It’s so important to express what we’re going through, and I love how you channeled your emotions into something constructive. Remember, it’s okay to have those low moments—what matters is how we rise from them. I’m here for you, and if you ever want to talk, just let me know. Stay strong. 💪

Awesome Images by the way ..

Thank you for the empowering wishes! I really felt this. There are times I’m so deeply tired that hopelessness starts to take hold and if I didn’t know how tired I was, it might take me down. Deep fatigue can definitely bring a whole package of other unwelcome guests. Good for you for watching and noticing!! Hope you’re able to get into a real pattern of good rest soon.

Take it one breath at a time, and remember it’s okay to feel overwhelmed—you don’t have to carry it all at once. Be kind to yourself, and know that rest will come, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. Thinking of you. 🙏🏼
