Sleeping!

What have you been putting off doing? Why?

Why? Well, damned if I know.

I guess “putting it off” isn’t accurate, but whatever. More like it’s been evading me. For a decent amount of time now, but more so the past few weeks, it seems.

I believe the main reason is because of my constantly shifting work schedule these past two months. 12 hours at night, to 8 hour days, over to 8 hour nights, and now going back to 12 hour nights.

Seriously, I need a roadmap to keep up with all the twists it’s taken.

Hey, you’d be throwing stuff on the floor if you were this confused too…

Sleep isn’t the only thing affected by these constant shifts either. Your eating schedule also gets totally out of whack. One week you’re sleeping when you usually eat, and the next you’re eating when you should be asleep!

But even that one, as much as it sucks, pales compared to the lack of sleep. That’s the one that really kicks your ass hardest. A day or two here and there? Yeah, stuff happens. But weeks/months on end of deteriorating sleep? I’m about ready to get off this train, thanks.

I’m hoping next week is the last schedule change for at least a little while. In the meantime, don’t mind me if I randomly pass out on a couch for 40 minutes here and there.

This looks like as good a place as any to….zzzzzzzz

Have a good one, folks. And if you get good sleep, consider yourself very fortunate indeed!

One of my first jobs was working in the er. They would try to switch me from 7:00 to 3:00 to 3:00 to 3:00 to 7:00 to 7:00. At a certain point I just had to say heck no. I need my circadian rhythm!

    1. Rotating schedules are the devil’s work, I swear lol
This was somewhat self-inflicted, as I accepted a new job and had to move to train, but it’s still been a grind. Not to mention that prior to all this I had spent almost a year on 1st shift.

  3. Iโ€™ve heard that a lot here and work schedules was not involved. I think it may be a change in seasons. Many people are complaining about it. Those are some jazzy PJs.๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. I’ve been going through this since almost April, so it’s hard to blame it on seasons in my case, I believe. It’s one more factor, but I’ve been on a roller coaster for about 10 months or so.
      Either way, it’s annoying LOL!

  4. Yes, the eating schedule also gets affected. As your body would not be able to recognize the sudden change in intake. All this ultimately results in health problems that are bad.

I am fortunate indeed, and I hope the same for you, friend.

Have a great day ahead. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  5. I worked shift-work for a year or so. 12 hour shifts (7 til 7), two days, two nights then four days off. It wasn’t too bad but I’m glad I’m not doing it anymore!

    1. I’m on a similar schedule starting tomorrow. 2, 2, 3 rotation every other week the days of the week flip. All night shift.
I’m doing it for now, but it’s not my long term plan for sure!

  6. Hubs and I have been having issues staying asleep. We surmise much of it due to aging. I work from home, so no worries if I get a crap night of sleep. He, on the other hand, has to go to the office and deal with (gasp!) people ๐Ÿ˜œ. Sometimes, we take a “magic gummy” and that always does the trick. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not that I’m encouraging cannabis use, but if it’s legal where you live… They make some good low-dose ones that just make you sleepy and not much else.

    1. It’s legal here, but the kicker with that idea for me is that it’s still against company policy and is part of a testing panel. lol
That’s my issue too. I have to go to work and deal with people (i.e. overgrown children in some cases lol) also. It’s just been way too much flip flop for me these past months. After awhile, the body says “yeah, enough” ๐Ÿ˜„

  7. Yeah, that stinks. I used to work for a big logistics firm many years ago. Even though it was more for the folks operating big trucks, the admin people were subjected to it also. They say it was all “random” but I had to pee in a cup twice as much as my officemates. I must have that look about me ๐Ÿ˜‚ And yeah, my hubs has described his coworkers the exact same way. ๐Ÿคฃ

    1. Even if it is legit random, it’s not worth the headache and looking for another job. I’ve done enough of that the past few months LOL
Sadly, a lot of folks do act like overgrown children in the modern workplace. It’s annoying af.

  9. My dad was a cop. Early in his career he would bounce between days, 2nd and 3rd shift during the same week.

Once when I took a job working 3rd shift, he said: โ€œworking 3rd shift is fine as soon as you realize that youโ€™re going to be tired all the timeโ€.

It’s tolerable if you are on it and stay on it. It’s the shifting that kicks you hard in the teeth. well, that, and trying to live like a normal person on your days off. That’s another topic…๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜„

I find it hard to even flip between waking at 4:30 am and waking at 7, which is about as dramatic as change gets for me! So I don’t know how you do it, and hopefully as you said, some stability will stick around soon!

  15. As I’m getting older, I put my foot down on those random shift changes. There are time when it necessary..and I understand. But I think they just like fiddling for the sake of fiddling. I barely get enough sleep as it is mate. Totally get you on this one. ๐Ÿ’ช

    1. A lot of it was due to the training period, which is pretty much over, thankfully. I am hoping things level off a bit now that I am through the final swap. The caveat is if a daytime slot opens up. That’s my ultimate goal in all this.
