Head For The Mountains

Daily writing prompt
Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

Strange…

I feel like I have answered this a time or ten. 🤔

Anyhow, for the umpteenth time…

Mountains, baby.

Why? Cooler temps, quiet, peaceful.

I just find that mountains capture my imagination more than other locales. Whenever I can, I try to head up north and into the surrounding towns which are a bit more mountainous. No, we’re not talking Colorado-level mountains, but it’s close enough for local trips.

It’s a nice getaway for an hour or two.

The cool, crisp air really motivates and inspires me.

And lest ye think I hate the beach…

No, I don’t hate it. Matter of fact, when I was younger, my family took many a vacation to beach locales in the summer. If the temps are not brutal and there’s a nice ocean breeze, it can indeed be quite pleasant.

But, given my preference, which I was, I would say my default would almost always be the mountains. There’s just a majesty about them that really resonates with me.

Aside from the quiet and cooler temps, I don’t know that I can really explain it.

It’s almost magical, really.

It’s just a vibe, man.

Have a great day, people.

Stay Frosty and Keep It Greasy.

  1. I have seen this question pop up three times. The first time I answered. (It may be on my current blog. Or it might have been my previous.) And since I answered it that time, I have seen it twice since. This being second time through people’s blogs, as I don’t follow these prompts now via my WordPress dashboard.

  3. I only like beaches in winter. When the sand is so frozen, there are no footprints.

Stay Frosty ending… PERFECT as Chicago just got snow and really COLD temps. Beach/mountains, hard to decide on a favorite, different times of years, either one is the go to place. Have a good weekend.

  5. I agree, the mountains are great. The beach not so much, maybe at night though, watching the stars and the sound of the waves. I would only choose the beach under strict conditions.

  9. I swear even I can come up with better prompts than WP these days. I miss the old daily prompts when they used to post a word prompt everyday and left the rest up to our imagination.
It’s the beach for me, without a doubt. Another added advantage would be the fresh, local seafood. Things that I miss the most in my current city.

    1. A word prompt would be cool for a change. It sounds interesting!
I think my cat could come up with better prompts just walking across the keyboard some days 😄

      1. It’s too bad that they put an end to the one word daily prompts 😞
Haha. True. I’m sure even your cat can do better.

      1. Well to be honest I’m ok at this time of the year cos it’s too cold. It only gets used a couple of days a year and the tourists tend to go to the same spots!

  17. Mountains all the way! There’s something undeniably captivating about their quiet majesty, crisp air, and peaceful solitude. They inspire imagination and offer a perfect escape—whether it’s an hour’s drive to nearby peaks or a longer adventure. The cool air feels invigorating, and the scenery always seems to offer a touch of magic that resonates on a deeper level.

While I appreciate the beach for its breezes and childhood memories, the mountains are my default. Their vibe is unmatched—calm, serene, and inspiring. Nothing against sandy shores, but give me the grandeur of a mountain view any day.

  18. Nice one, Kevin. There’s something about the mountains that draws me, too. Did you ever read that Juvenile Fiction book “My side of the Mountain?” One of my favs, about this kid, maybe 12 or 13 who runs away from home and lives off the land up in the Catskills. Think you’d like it 😎

There’s definitely a peace that calls to me from the higher regions.

No, I don’t recall ever reading that one. It might be something worth checking out. Thank you for the rec! 👍👍
