Action in action

Another post from the archives. This one is interesting to look back on for me. I did indeed complete the 8-week course and earned multiple certifications, with, I am proud to say, the highest completion rate in the history of the program. I don’t recall off the top of my head, but it was between 13 and 15 certificates if my memory serves.

I did look into the Associate Degree as well, but literally the day I went to talk to the student advisor, I got a call from a recruiter about a job opportunity. My priorities then shifted to getting my butt back into the workforce.

It is still something I would like to pursue in the future, but in the interim, I may return to take another 8-week course and earn even more certificates. I will admit that this was an enjoyable time for me, and I am proud of all I accomplished in a very short time.

  1. I went back to school and earned an Associate degree after not having been in high school for a bit. It was rewarding and satisfying knowing I still “had it” It certainly is…never too late. You should be proud.

    1. That’s great. I am sure it was satisfying indeed!
Thank you, Phoebe. Yes, I am. It wasn’t anything major league, but it kept the mind nimble and was a good distraction from my situation at the time.

    1. It definitely gave me something to focus on and not feel so useless, yes, which was nice at that particular time. I needed it. It was fun and ideally I could have continued, but it wasn’t the priority at the time.
      Thank you, Darryl. 😊😊

    1. Thank you, Maggie. Indeed not. Once we stop learning, I think we stop most everything. School or otherwise, life is all about discovery.

      2. It’s definitely going to be awhile before I can resume. My current schedule makes it difficult, as it constantly rotates. Once I have a more static schedule, then I can start thinking about it again. That was one advantage to being unemployed – plenty of free time 😄

That is so cool 🙂 I went back and got my masters after being out of school for 25 years. It was a little daunting trying to make the time but super satisfying. I think it’s awesome to remember we’re never too old to keep pushing ourselves.

    1. That’s awesome, Sarah. My current schedule makes it tough since the caveat is that I have to attend x amount of classes in person. A rotating schedule makes that difficult, particularly since they are 12 hour shifts. Once things line up better for me it’s something I’d like to explore again.

  7. I kinda remember when I first started reading your posts a lot and remember when you were talking about your school journey as I was also taking classes at the time 😊 (gotta go back to that, but that’s not the point) 😆 and I remember feeling some of the same feelings you did as you talked about not really being a “school” person and going back. It is daunting, but once we do it it’s very rewarding. So happy for you having had that experience! I didn’t go through nursing school obviously right away after high school because same thing – no time, had to work, bills to pay. Time is really our biggest issue sometimes (heh) it seems. But we most certainly can make the time and should for some things 😍 very proud of you and for all you’ve gone through in your journey thus far ❤️ you always will deserve the absolute best in my eyes 🥰 🙏

    1. Thank you 😍
Yes, it was a daunting journey, even though it was just a course and not a full class. Especially after more than a minute out of the game lol

We say “time” a lot, and in some cases, it really is true. I had planned to continue, but at this time it’s not feasible. 12-hour nights and a rotating schedule make it tough to plan out, especially since one of the caveats to getting the ride is attending X amount of classes in person. It’s not 100% online. To do that, a more stable schedule would be needed. And, my schedule has been anything but stable the past 10 or so months. Hell, I’m still trying to get reacclimated to mine. 😄
But yes, some things we can and should make time for indeed. 😍🤗
I don’t know that I’ve done anything all that earth shattering, but there’s a few little Ws in there. Thank you again 😊😊

    1. Thank you, Nancy! If some things fall into place I look forward to continuing. Right now at this second it’s not feasible, but such is the way of life.

I have that same problem with my new program, all the in person classes are when I’m working. Good luck

Yes, 12 hour nights don’t lend themselves to a lot, unfortunately lol

  12. Learning and keeping oneself updated is very essential in today’s world. Congratulations to you for pulling this off with the highest completion rate in the program. That would have been a huge confidence booster. It’s a great attitude to look at setbacks as opportunities for growth and improvement. Lately, I’ve been toying with the idea of taking up my masters too. I keep telling myself there’s absolutely no time! But when you really want to make things matter, I guess we can make up the time for it.
