The Life & Times Of G. Damn Rilla

β€”

in ,

So, now that I finally have some news and answers, I can say a bit more about what’s been going on with me the past few weeks/months.

This might take a minute. Sorry if it rambles a bit. πŸ˜„

I have alluded to some health stuff that I’ve been trying to get taken care of, but I am not going to get too deep into that. Like I said previously, I don’t think any of it is major; just a bunch of nagging stuff that I am sick of putting up with more than anything.

My time as an International Gorilla Of Mystery has been lively indeed!

Always something going on in the world of an IGOM.

The biggest thing I’ve been doing lately is looking for a new job, and as of this past Tuesday, I officially have one.

I had applied for an in-house position on a different shift within my current company back in February, which I did not get. That was all well and good at the time. I was slightly disappointed, but not terribly so. I did want different hours, because my current rotation, frankly, sucks. πŸ˜„

I was somewhat debating my next move, but was in no hurry. I was biding my time.

But then, about a month ago, on a Tuesday night, I hit my breaking point and knew it was time to move on.

Pissed off and mad about it.

It was a culmination of many things, really.

I got tired of spending 12-plus hours chasing my tail due to poor planning/leadership.

I got tired of grown-ass men acting like absolute children, and getting no support in trying to correct their behavior.

I got tired of inconsistent enforcement of policies.

I got tired of watching our newest “savior” beginning to fill the place with cronies from his last company just to have yes men in his midst.

No job is perfect, but I have been in the game long enough that I can read the writing on the wall. I see where all is headed and it’s not stellar.

So…

I decided to do something about it.

That Wednesday morning when I got home, I called a recruiter I know and told her I was looking for an out. And as quickly as possible.

Funnily enough, around that same time, a former manager of mine had hit me up and, turns out, he was looking for someone at his current company.

Cue sunrise and enlightening music, please.

Light bulb moment.

I will say, though, that for a week or two, I was really dreading the idea of jumping yet again. I was very conflicted and stressed about the whole business.

In the past 12 months, I have had more jobs than in the previous 12 years. The idea of jumping for the third time in a little over a year was getting tiresome.

Despite my misgivings, I still went through with all the screenings, tests, etc., and at the end of it all, I ended up moving forward with it and submitted my resignation this week. I’ll be starting the new job in mid-June.

There are some people and things I will miss from the current job, but there are far more that I won’t miss.

I still haven’t hit the daytime shift lottery quite yet, but this new position offers a bit more stability of schedule, so it’s a start at least.

In other news, thank you to everyone for all the lovely birthday wishes, and special thanks to the lovely Ms. Laura for the post. Much love always. πŸ’“

To say that I was deeply touched does not do the feeling justice. It was a very welcome sight on a somewhat tough day.

My sincerest thanks again to all of you.

Thank you πŸ’“

Also on a birthday related note, I pulled the trigger on another childhood dream and bought this:

EVH FTW

One of the recent upsides at the current job was a fairly decent bonus for performance last fiscal year.

While I do have a beloved EVH signature guitar already, I would be lying if I didn’t say I’ve always wanted one with the iconic stripes too.

Growing up, for me, this was the guitar.

I actually went back and forth between picking this one and the Frankenstein replica (that may still be on the table someday! lol), but at the end of the day, the 5150 won out this time around.

I have fond memories of watching Eddie jam out with this particular model guitar both live, and also on the iconic Live Without A Net home video. If you have not seen that, I suggest you get your ass to YouTube and look it up. πŸ˜„

As with all things VH, I love it, of course. It’s a fine, fine axe and I look forward to actually diving back in and playing again.

Lastly, when I logged in last night for a few moments, I saw the following notification:

Needless to say, a huge thank you to everyone for reading, commenting, liking and subscribing! I am truly humbled to hit such a milestone, and grateful to have found such a fine, fine community of people. You all make it worth showing up here, and I am constantly amazed by the creativity I witness on the regular.

Thanks, y’all!

So, if you have made it this far, you probably deserve a gold medal. I think this might be one of my longest posts in quite some time, if ever. 😲

In closing, I will share a couple pics I snapped this morning.

There’s a few baby Blue Jays around the yard getting their wings and doing that little hop/fly/hop thing they do, and of course there’s a watchful adult close by. I think it’s Mama Jay based on the size, but I could be wrong.

Watchful Momma.

Get your wings.

Dunno what kind of flower this is, but it’s nice. I defer to any greenthumbs in the house.

On that note, I thank you if you made it this far!

I am hoping once I get settled into this new job I can be around a bit more. Might be crazy for a few weeks, but hopefully there’s some calmer waters ahead.

Stay healthy, stay safe, and of course…

Stay Frosty.

The word “settle” seems to have changed for me. I remember when it sounded like a death sentence, and now it has promise of a life. πŸ™‚
