And Out Come The Snakes

I’ve been around the block more than a couple of times in my life and one of the truisms I’ve always encountered is that when someone leaves a job, regardless of the circumstances, once they are gone they get blamed for most everything under the sun.

I’ve been chatting with a former cohort and they’re telling me that now I am getting blamed for everything from administrative tasks not being completed to the fall of the Roman Empire.

Welcome to corporate America.

Yes, dear readers, I am now the worst person to ever walk the earth. At least until the next sucker comes along.

But I guess that’s the nature of life and the modern workplace.

And of course, some of the ones saying these things are the same ones who came to me begging for help and support on the regular. Mind you, I rarely, if ever, asked for anything in return either.

But isn’t that usually the way?

While I was a bit mad when I heard it, even though I knew it was coming, I quickly found myself thankful. Now I know who the true snakes are, and I also know at the end of the day, I am far better off without them than they are without me.

While people are jumping off that ship like it’s the Titanic, I’ve already started swimming for better shores.

At the end of the day, when they’re all drowning, it’s gonna really suck when I don’t have a life preserver to throw them.

But isn’t that usually the way? πŸ˜‰

  1. Good morning, Kevin 🌞 I know it has happened to me too. Heartbreaking β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή disheartening- to me. Well, but the one who laughs last laughs best, and truth is truth to the end of reckoning. Have a great day! 🌟🀠

    1. Good morning Stephanie! While I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt at all, I am trying to keep it in perspective. I can’t control what others do or say, so I’m just going to process it and move on.
Sadly, crap like this happens to lots of folks regularly.

      2. Indeed it is. Stuff like that is best left in the rearview mirror.
        I’ll be ok. Thanks, Stephanie!

  2. It sucks and better to ignore those people anyway. Corporate America has a lot of those little toxic environments that can destroy companies if not handled properly by management. Good luck and probably better if you start looking for another job that can appreciate your contributions.

    1. Good morning, Edward. You are 100% right, yes. I can assure you the culture hasn’t magically improved since I was shown the door. I’ve already made a couple promises to myself about finding a job that appreciates it’s workers and also made a commitment to setting boundaries. No more taking on every little task!

  3. It sucks when one employee becomes the scapegoat but it’s so common. The same thing happened to a close friend of mine when she quit an extremely toxic job last year. It’s awful but that’s just the way it is. Still, you got out of there and I can tell you’re going in a much better direction so don’t worry about it too much.

    1. Oh, I’ve seen it happen to pretty much everyone everywhere I have worked. It’s the default setting: blame the person who just left since they aren’t there to dispute it lol
Thanks, Pooja! I’m definitely headed to a better place no matter what!

as said.. you today, someone else tomorrow.

Keep that optimistic attitude intact… It’s an asset for sure.

    1. Oh, yes I’ll definitely be forgotten about soon enough. No worries there lol
I’m not going to let that bring me down too much. It stung a bit, but it is what it is. Moving on…nothing to see there. Except miserable people lol

  5. Thank you for sharing your experiences regarding corporate America.

You’re better off far away from that place and those people. This new start is just what you needed all along.
