Junk It All (Prompt: 01/16/24)

Bloganuary writing prompt
Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

There are a ton of ways this can be interpreted. Physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.

Funny thing is about two months ago, I went on a tear and threw a bunch of stuff out that had been hanging around forever. Finally got sick of it and tossed it.

Ironically, about a week before I got fired from my job, I had torn through my office and thrown a bunch of stuff out too. Guess I made it a bit easier for them to collect up my belongings for me. 😄

But the area where I’ve been de-cluttering the most lately is my mental makeup.

As anyone who’s read along for a little bit knows, the impetus for me starting this blog was to process some of the lessons I’d learned and hopefully help some others along the way.

Granted, I’ve kind of taken a left turn and gotten into posting poems and digital images, but it’s just another step on the journey and I am merely taking it as it comes. I’d prefer to let inspiration be my guide and take me wherever it wishes right now. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that I really want to bring some positive energy into the lives of others. How I do it isn’t as important right now than just doing it somehow.

And truthfully, the poems and images are a way to help me filter out negative vibes in my own nimble little brain.

Anyhow, back on topic.

The areas I am really working on “de-cluttering” are my mental and emotional ones. I have carried way too much around for way too long and it’s high time that shit hit the road. From people who are nothing but a drain on my energy, to internalizing things I totally did not have to, I am chucking it all.

It’s not always easy, but like any habit, it takes times to form.

Every day I feel a little lighter and a little better. Every piece of excess baggage, whether it’s “friends” who weren’t there for me like they claimed, or something I should have forgiven myself for ages ago, that I have jettisoned has given me back more energy that I can invest in positive growth and helping others.

To paraphrase the late Bruce Lee: Take what is useful and reject the rest.

While I’m not done yet, I can say that taking a sledgehammer to a lot of issues and tossing them on the scrap heap is pretty damned liberating.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, as they say.

  2. Indeed, good riddance said well.
Life just on a daily basis is enough to make it a heavy load sometimes… no sense making that load heavier… we say and try to listen lol😁

    1. It’s definitely not always simple, but any little bit we can jettison is a help.

  4. Think the saying time is the greatest healer is true, just starting to heal from something years later. Guess we let go when we are ready.

    1. Yes, 100%. Like my old man used to say – No one can tell you otherwise until you’re ready to hear it.

letting go of baggage is such a liberating thing. It’s the will to do it that sometimes tough. 🙂 But you’re right we’re always better off

    1. Thank you, Sarah. No, it definitely is not easy. Sometimes it’s the hardest thing to do, even when it is for the best.
