Going To Agoge

Not “Going To A Go-Go” like the Stones sing.

“Agoge.” Basically, it’s an old Spartan term for the rigorous training and education the young warriors went through to become soldiers. I’m simplifying, but that’s it in a nutshell.

During a brief conversation with Ojaswi Gupta the other day, the term came up.

Long story short, I sometimes take what I refer to as a personal Agoge. It’s a concept where I go ghost for a period of time daily to devote to exercise, reading/learning, and rest/meditation.

I ended up starting again yesterday, because I felt like it was needed.

I had the sudden urge to light a fire under my own as again, so I commenced a 100 pushup challenge that will last 30 days. This time around I am opting for 100, because I am still a bit dinged up, and I also want to do other exercises as well.

I will also be dedicating a set amount of time to reading and/or writing. Ideally, a bit of both. I do not know the duration yet, but it will be daily as well.

Finally, I will be setting aside about 10-15 minutes daily for reflection/meditation, as I feel the quiet time is of great benefit to both mind and body.

I am planning to document this little project, much like I did my 200 pushup challenge a couple months back. Ideally, this will keep me somewhat accountable, and maybe provide some insights or amusement for all of you as well.

That said, you are all welcome to follow along, and we shall see how it goes.

Peace y’all!

    1. Thanks! I have been doing ok, but know I can still do better. I have not been reading anywhere near what I used to, and my workouts have been “meh” at best lately. I started ont he spur of the moment, but once I iron it out I’ll roll along nicely I think.
