Amidst the pain, amidst the strife
When the world has cut me like a knife
Amidst the doubts, amidst the fear
I am ever grateful you are here
We almost lost you long ago
The tears I cried you’ll never know
So many nights of restless sleep
So many nights I’d lay and weep
So many hours I would pray
That I would meet you soon one day
And how you fought, a champion’s heart
A warrior true right from the start
You fought to live, can’t be denied
A lion’s heart beats deep inside
We’ve been through much, both you and I
But we’ve never left each other’s side
More than my child, my finest friend
So it shall be until the end
While Father’s Day is supposed to be a day to recognize those men who have shaped and formed our lives, to me it is something much different.
For me, Father’s Day is a day of gratitude.
It is a day for me to reflect on how lucky I am to have my child by my side.
Were it not for her strength and iron will, I would not be able to call myself “father” today.
So many times the fear that she would not be born was very, very real. And after she was born there were still issues.
We have had a life of frequent struggle and pain, and when I look into her eyes I can see that so clearly. But I also see something much more. I see the same tenacity that brought her into this world and gave me strength when I wanted to completely give up.
She is so much more than a daughter to me. She is my rock, my power and my best friend.
It is my wish that every father can know that feeling.
Happy Father’s Day. Thank your children for bestowing upon you the greatest title any man could ever hope for.
