Set Up For The Kill

Dropped me in the dark and you left me here for dead

Can you please explain what was going through your head?

Perfectly you set me, set me right up for the kill

Tell me, was it worth it? Tell me, did you get a thrill?

Didn’t see it coming and I really don’t know why

I guess I was enraptured while you told your little lies

I told you all my secrets, ones I’d never told before

I thought I gave enough, but I guess you wanted more

Sucked the life right from me just like marrow from a bone

Now I’m drowning deep and you’ve left me all alone

If I wash up on a shore somewhere and make it back alive

That’s the second you will know that your reckoning arrived

  1. This poem reminds me of all the energy vampires I’ve encountered. They are out of my life now, so I wonder if their reckoning has arrived or not.

  2. The ending is my favorite, for the possible revenge that will be exacted within the rage that is all-consuming.
    Sometimes people just need it.

  8. I thought i gave enough, but I guess you wanted more.

Given enough is not always enough for people. Wanting more than what has been given is a practical kind of human nature that can never be washed off from them. All one could do is to know when enough has been given and when more than they possess is being demanded from them. Well done Kevin for sharing this. Peace.

    1. Thank you Stanley. Yes, some people will never feel it’s enough, that’s why we have to know when to walk away. Take care ๐Ÿ™
