Outrun

Incoming sighted

Approaching NYC

Panic in the streets

Military mobilizing

Bug out

The day I’ve predicted for so long

It’s here

Knew it would come

The path was set so long ago

Selfishness

Avarice

Hate

Power

It was plain for all to see

If they only opened their eyes

I saw

I knew

Get out of the city

Can I outrun the inevitable?

I have my answer

The solution escaped us so long ago

The signs were there

But we didn’t heed

Here we are

  1. Fantastic poem, Kevin. If only it weren’t so realistic.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Sometimes life writes the pieces for us, unfortunately.

  3. You are so good in this. Whether we could like what you are talking about, we understand or, simply, we would like to perform it, I (we) need to admit that you are one of the best (or simply the best, as the song says πŸ™ƒ) in this matter. My congratulations from this humble and young project which is my blog. β€˜Dad’, when I grow up, I want to be like you πŸ«ΆπŸΌπŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ˜Ž

    1. Thank you very much, my friend. You humble me with your praise. There are far more expressive writers out there than me, but I greatly value the compliment. πŸ™πŸ˜Š

      1. Fair enough. When I meet them, I will recognise them. So far, I know you (amongst others) and I like what you do πŸ˜ŠπŸ”

  4. That resonated quite strongly with me. Might turn out to be prophetic. Unfortunately. Have a great day Kevin 🌞

    1. To put it as bluntly as I can, we humans have a really bad tendency to keep doing the same stupid shit over and over again. In our own lives, and in the global community at large.

      1. Yep, that seems to be the general consensus πŸ€”

      2. I’d like to think future generations will finally figure it out, but I am not sold on that notion.

      3. Learn your history. If you don’t, you’re condemned to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

  5. Love this, Kevin! There’s lots of darkness within the world, and you reflect that well in your writing, almost like a wake-up call! Wonderfully done, as usual 😊

    1. The wake up call no one will hear but I guess that’s kind of the point huh? Lol
      Thank you Laura 😊

      2. I question if even that would be enough to make anybody take pause. Ego and arrogance often make people think that can’t happen

      3. That’s true, or it’ll be a purge-like experience, where politicians and higher ups won’t have to deal with it and us peasants will pay the ultimate price…

Then again πŸ€” if you’re running for mayor….
