When in doubt, act.

Another old post, but one that got a read today, so I figured others might be interested as well. I also took the liberty of adding some pics, and my sweet af logo.

  3. It’s such a coincidence that I came across this post of yours today. It’s a constant fight with my inner perfectionist when it comes to executing plans. I’m actively trying to pick one and just go. Here’s to getting things done instead of just obsessing over where to start!

    1. Sometimes saying the hell with it and just going for it is the best course of action.
An old boss of mine used to say “I don’t care if you make a good decision or a bad one; just make A decision”
His thought was if it was the wrong one, we can review it, learn from it and move on, and not repeat the same mistake.

      1. Those are very wise words indeed. My current boss tells the same thing too. It doesn’t matter if we fail. We need to fail fast so that there’s time to execute plan B!

      2. That is the biggest issue: People don’t fail fast enough. They will cling to something that’s clearly not working for myriad reasons until it finally crashes and burns completely.

      3. Ohh yes. By the time the failure is evident, it’ll be too late to stop the catastrophe.

  4. I like your post Kevin. Yes, sometimes the smaller tasks are better to start on, just to get you started and moving to do the rest. I have sometimes found that I am better doing it that way too.

    1. Thank you, Liz. I don’t think we have to tackle the giant first thing, every time. Sometimes laying the foundation is the better approach.

A relatable post, as this is the daily struggle for me! I always have to avoid the temptation to slack too much, and try and keep myself busy. Writing has helped a lot with keeping my focus forward.

  10. First off let me say I’m digging your new logo! It definitely is cool AF!

I can really relate to your post today! There are so many times when I have no idea what I’m going to write about. It’s especially frustrating when I’m staring at a prompt image and nothing’s coming to me! They can’t all be those brilliant storylines that pop into our heads at 3AM! Those ideas are the best and I don’t know about you but I have to write them down immediately or they’ll be gone in the morning! But I can’t imagine not writing, no matter how tough it may be at times.

Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving, Kevin!

    1. Thank you, Nancy. All the credit goes to Laura for that. She’s made a bunch for me and they’re all fantastic!

I have to write them down when they hit me as well or I am totally screwed, yes lol
I will often just walk away for a spell if nothing’s coming. I figure whatever it is, it just plain isn’t ready to be revealed yet.
That’s why I have been pulling up old posts – as a reminder to myself about some things, and also since the well is a bit dry, I might as well put the B-sides out there for anyone who’s interested.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well, Nancy! Thank you!

  14. You were only on hold for less than 5 minutes. That is not terrible. I was on hold for more than 8 hours with Travelocity regarding two SAS tickets to Sweden that I bought from them. Travelocity also hung up on me twice. After being on hold for 8 hours they were rude and they rejected my claim, which was valid. Afterwards I contacted SAS directly, I was not on hold, and they honored my claim despite the fact that I did not buy the ticket from them. They just did it because my claim was correct and Travelocity was difficult to deal with. I will never do business with Travelocity again. Sometimes handling business is difficult and sometimes not.

    1. Oh, I was very lucky indeed. Normal wait time is usually upwards of an hour for the agency I was dealing with at the time.
That’s awful about Travelocity. Eight hours is already unacceptable. Nevermind the fact that they did absolutely zero for you. That’s just insult to injury. At least you were able to get it rectified by some means, but still…

      1. Travelocity used to be good but they have received a lot of complaint the last few years. Now I avoid them.

  15. This is a great way to say just get up and do the damn thing. I used to have a manager that would say “just showing up” was 90% of it and it’s kinda true. I won’t get into mediocrity for people who “just show up” for work and nothing else because you know that’ll go around in circles forever, but in life sometimes we just need that little bit of “to do” and then it sometimes turns out differently than expected as well.

Anyways before I ramble more into my sleepy delusions I’ll just stfu 🤐 and say great post as usual Kevin, you are cookin up good stuff always, even tho this is an older post 😍 I still enjoyed it ❤️🤗🥰 fantastic as usual 😘

    1. Yes, there are always going to be the ones who just “show up” and take it no further, but they’ll always exist, unfortunately. I think for the average person, just getting in there is indeed half the battle and the rest will “usually” fall into place.
Thank you very much, of course. 😍 I’m very glad you enjoyed these blasts from the (recent) past. 😊
