A game of extremes

Talk about one extreme to the other. At my previous job, I was averaging 14 to 16 hour workdays Monday through Friday, and 4 to 5 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

And it was nonstop go, go, go. From about 4AM until 9 or 10PM on the regular.

Now?

I have literally gone from one extreme to the other.

I’m looking for shit to do and can hardly find anything.

is this how most jobs in the regular world are?

Was my previous job that much of an anomaly with the insane hours and workload?

Granted, I don’t exactly want to revisit that frantic mess, and I guess this is the better problem to have, but still…Man, this is a huge contrast.

Total freaking 180 here and not sure how some people do it. 😆

  2. I feel this post. I have always heard how people are constantly busy, while I could do my work with 30 hrs a week. I have to say that I like to work efficiently and never cared much about socializing at the coffee machine or attending inefficient meetings.
And that is equally as stressful as being too busy.
It just is a very underestimated stress, unfortunately.

But anyways, maybe it’s this way for a reason, you never know! 😊

  4. My guess is that working full time often means you actually don’t. Of course it depends on the job, but regular office work and even software development is usually not full time even though we all strive to be working those 8 hours.

Meetings and being social often counts as work to is my understanding so it’s usually pretty easy to fill up a days work. If you must be at the office it also often seems like being there for the full 8 hours is more important than doing good and being productive.

    1. Well the thing for me is I’m here for 12 hours. And it’s at night to boot LOL
And like I said the last job I came from I was working obscene hours and now I’ve done a total 180 and I’m going out of my skull trying to figure out what to do 😆
Compounded by the fact that there’s not exactly a ton of people to socialize with to pass the time.

      1. Yeah then I can see why you’re going nuts in the job. I would too. I’ve noticed that I need to be constantly challenged on the job to actually work. Otherwise I spend my days doing nothing 😂.

It’s a good thing coding is challenging.

  5. Yes, most jobs are like that. You deserve to take it more easily after what you described. Life is not all about work after all. I learned this the hard way. Anyways take good care Kevin and have a great time 😊

    1. Thanks, Chris. 🤘
It’s funny, but I almost felt more productive when I was unemployed 😅
It’s too early to say for sure but this job just might not be stimulating enough for me. We’ll see I guess lol

      1. I’ve had both before. I used to have to try to fill eight hours before. It’s can be a little exhausting at the end of the day. But then I left and hopped back into the fire and wished for those boring days again.

I will say, your last job doesn’t sound healthy. I don’t care if you are Superman, that eventually catches up with you.

I believe people should care for the body and mind in all ways so that we can be the best humans, and productive in ways we don’t commonly think of as productive.
one can’t do that overworked. 🤷‍♀️
But there are likely ways to shift the boredom. Yet it takes a lot of thought and change people aren’t super comfortable with lol. Meh, I don’t have a ton of hope in humanity (this coming from the dark moody girl lol) but maybe there’s a little hope in change somewhere

  9. I’m enjoying not having that chaos any longer. I get up early, go to work an hour early to read before I get started and then work until it’s time to go home. 2 breaks and 1 lunch. I have to force myself to do the breaks. Because I’m not used to having them. But I’m learning.
Find a hobby. It’s not easy but it’s doable.
